Reminds me of back in the day when I was going to grad school in museum studies, when I took a course introducing us to conservation.* I enjoyed it, and while I had the art skill (but not practice) and the science skill, I decided against it, mostly because nobody was making any money in it** but also partly because I did not have the patience or attention to detail it requires. I do admire watching others who have it, though, especially when it's on video and they can montage all the tediously boring bits.
*Slightly different approach to conservation than fine art, for the most part, treating objects as artifacts with a history and lifespan so you stabilize and preserve instead of restoring to the original, the way that fine art restoration does. It's just dependent on the context of the work.
**One of the local conservators had a part-time job as a cashier to make ends meet. I had student loans. Yeah.
