Quick!

Answer me this!

When you go to the website of a science fiction (anime, media, mystery, whatever) convention, what info are you looking for?

In roughly prioritized order: con dates, hotel rates & location & directions, registration dates/costs, pre-registration links, special events, panels & descriptions, FAQ.

When, where.
How to contact someone (I'm usually looking for Con or Bust stuff).
Hours of registration.
Programming.

If I haven't registered: dates, registration information, hotel information.

If I have registered: program and events schedule, directions for getting there, contact information for the committee.

Exact date, programming, hotel information/location, more or less in that order, assuming I'm already interested.

When it is, where it is, and how do I get there.

Date, location, membership cost, driving/parking directions, hotel information, guests, program (if available). Pretty much in that order.

Also how to register, preferably with an online form.

Yessss...when I see a con that has a shiny website full of bells and whistles but expects me to register via sending a check in the mail, it is really not a big selling point to me. (Mail-order registration as an *option* for people who prefer not to do it online is fine, of course, but at this point I pretty much expect that online registration and payment should be available and am nonplussed to find an event that doesn't offer it.)

Exactly this, except along with driving/parking, access to public transportation (if available).

Yes, and for goodness' sake make sure the information is ACCURATE and up-to-date. One local con which Shall Remain Nameless has for the last couple of years listed transportation options including a seasonal water taxi which does not actually run during the time of year when the con is held...and their information about the con hotel's shuttle service lists hours and prices that are about three years out of date. Just because the con is being held at the same location as it was in previous years doesn't mean you shouldn't double-check that sort of thing -- bus and train and shuttle schedules and routes can change, fares can change, construction may have made new roads available or old ones inaccessible...and while local attendees may be able to tell if your info is laughably out of date, out-of-town attendees may get screwed if they're counting on what you tell them.

For that matter, don't expect the hotel's website info to be accurate, heh.

When it's on, where it is (and directions on how to get there), and how much it costs. Then whatever events and guests are going on.

[identity profile] arkanefyre.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Date, time, location (link to map and address), how much, guests, application. Possibly in that order.

If you're doing website design right now, THANK YOU for being client-focused.

[identity profile] darksumomo.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Location, date, time, guests, costs, registration.

[identity profile] ebony14.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
In order:

Who is going to be there, when it is, where it is, how much it costs, and how can I pay.

I can understand the focus on location and date, but if I'm not interested in who's attending, then those are irrelevant. (That includes friends of course.)

I want basic info first: Where, when, how much are tickets. An easy link to information for artists and dealers with, again, basic info- how much are tables, how big, when is the alley/dealer's room open.

After that, a schedule with panel times and such is always nice to see, if only because it lets me know that SOME thought is going into panels and such.:P

What I usually get is a lot of staggered news updates and videos of past cons. NOT HELPFUL.

[identity profile] akaihyo.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
When, where, how much. Then smaller details: like what is going on there.
