Peeve: titling an email "Following up" when it is, in fact, the first time I am hearing about an issue.

New glasses. Progressive lenses. Not sure about them - not the progressive bit, as I'll get used to that, but I still can't focus at the distance that is comfortable for me to work on close-up work. Hrm. Also, the edges distort a little too much. I know it's the nature of lenses to be circular-ish in general, but previously I could actually glance sidelong at someone and not notice anything. Hrm again.

This is a fantastic dressing, and let me tell you I don't actually like salad dressing, and have stunned servers for years by ordering my salad dry.* But put this on a salad (and it is strong enough to drown out the bitter flavor of many dark leafy greens, which usually renders me unable to eat them), and I will inhale it.

It's also from a local restaurant - the chef-owner happily gives out his recipes. If you email him and ask, he'll send it. He also has one cookbook out and another one about to come out.

Sorry, cilantro-haters: there is cilantro. You may be able to figure out a substitute that will leave it still tasting good. Also, you control the amount of heat in it by how much of the seeds and ribs you remove from the jalapeno. Our current batch has no heat at all.

* If they freak out at this, and surprisingly enough some of them do, a lot, I graciously allow them to accompany the dry salad with a slice or two of lemon, which I usually don't bother to squeeze on it. Honestly, you'd think there was something unnatural about not liking a bunch of goopy stuff on my lettuce. If you don't like the flavor of lettuce, here's a stunner: don't eat it.

I meant to post this yesterday, but forgot. The man standing in back of yesterday's entry on Great Masters Disasters reminds me very strongly of someone, but I cannot place him. I'm not sure if it's an actor or other entertainer, or someone I've met in real life. Does he strike a bell for anyone else?

(The seated goldsmith is, naturally, a relative of Ciarán Hinds.)
