So ... back from the con, and taking Monday off to recuperate. And man, I've got a lot of LJ notifications and email from the past week to reply to. :D
Con went much better than last year's Snowpocalypse - we had a full roster of guests and attendees this time! We had the usual run of con-related and personal minor calamities, but overall all is well. I spent most of the time in Ops.
We had a benefit auction this year for the con, in order to try to recover a bit from last year. The director's husband's uncle, who was a collector of SF movie and TV memorabilia, left his collection to the director's husband. He and the director wen through it and kept what they liked, then donated the rest to the con to sell. There was a lot of just OK stuff, but a couple of pretty nice pieces:
( Read more... )The auction/sale was also what prompted my post of yesterday about helping Brandon Sanderson tear off the backs of a bunch of Trek figurines. There were a metric buttload of those in the stuff on sale (these weren't auctioned, but among the stuff set up for direct sale), and he bought the entire bridge crew of Next Gen. He explained why - something about his wife setting up a scene going up the stairs of their house with other figurines fighting Cthulhu or something, and he thought the bridge crew might help. He was trying to fit them into his backpack for the plane trip home, and thought that he could do it if the backs of the packages were ripped off, so I helped him do that.
Anyway, all our guests were very nice, and Jack McDevitt even came to the con bitch session to compliment both the con staff and the audiences he had.*
