Unusual fruit
Mar. 8th, 2007 10:29 amAt the grocery store yesterday I picked up two melons I'd never tried on a whim. One is a kiwano, or African horned melon, and the other is one whose name I can't remember.
The kiwano is said to taste like a mix of cucumber, lime, and banana, to taste better when it's slightly overripe, and to benefit from a sprinkling of brown sugar. So I'll probably wait until this weekend to give it a try.
I can't remember the other one's name, but it started with a "p". It's small - maybe the size of my fist or a wee bit bigger - oblong, and the skin is smooth and thin. It's vaguely the color of an apricot, although not the texture. Anyone out there know?
