Freaky illusion!

Essentially, if you keep your eyes trained on the cross in the center of the screen so you're using your peripheral vision to see the faces, the succession of rapidly flashed perfectly normal faces will seem grotesquely exaggerated. There's a link to the abstract of the paper about the effect.

They seemed like the exaggerated caricatures of a claymation or CGI build person. To me nearly half ended up having elongated necks and sort of pointy chins with a rounded head and large eyes and the other half had squished heads with all the features pushed in to the middle.

I didn't read the abstract because I'm lazy and I've just woken up and need to have breakfast first, but it seems like the faces are set up in a specific order to create the effect. For example I noticed that a lot of people with large eyes came directly after those with fairly small ones.

Still, very cool.
