Hey!

Someone needs to write a story about someone like this woman, the only known female eagle hunter in Kazakhstan.

(ETA: Link to the blog entry about his visit with her by the original photographer in [livejournal.com profile] estara's comment on LJ.)

Barring that, have a look at a cat standing on its head on top of a door.

That last one is me, after talking to seven roofers and then my mother. HAHAHAHAHA. Yes. Right up to the glowy red eyes.

I don't doubt it!

I've found an even older fragment of a report on her - in somewhat better English. That picture seems to have been more recently taken than 2006, anyway.

Also, I TOTALLY agree on someone needing to write a story about someone like her - or even a novel.

ETA: Even better, I found the original taker of the picture and his visit to Makpal and her family: http://keenonkyrgyzstan.com/2010/11/27/eagle-babe/

Cool, thanks!

That's quite fascinating. The articles don't really seem to mention it much, but the links to the Khans would be fascinating to trace. And I would totally read the book(s)!

Her father's pride in her was evident and touching. I loved his bragging on her. And good for the elders who were able to find a reason to let her continue.

I can sort of see the elders' decision-making process, at least the way I'd fictionalize it:

Problem: a society that follows very traditional ways (and elders whose position depends on keeping those traditions!). "Hmmmm...let me see...she's very good at it, and we'd rather not have the younger generation resentful of us and it's awesome for the tourist industry, pumping money into our economy...wait, I think I recall a legendary female eagle hunter!" "Yes, yes, that one! Story's told very rarely, almost died out, no wonder lots of people don't know it..."

You are soooo right. As usual.

I second that! Wow, she just looks like if she got cut she'd bleed win.
