(no subject)

We bought a Food Maze for the cats. Their reactions can be summed up thusly:

Sora: What...? Mama, feed me! Mama feed me! MAMA FEED ME!! *I leave the room* Oh, look, here's some food! I can paw it out and eat it! Yum! *I enter the room* MAMA FEED ME I'M STAAAAARVING AND THERE'S NO FOOD HERE!

Nefer: WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN *stares mournfully at us*

Puccini shared Nefer's reaction the first time we gave him a stuffed Kong (http://www.flickr.com/photos/batwrangler/2077701775/in/set-72157594236664614/) Toy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/batwrangler/2078492432/in/set-72157594236664614/).

We're going to leave the food UFO unfilled tonight and just put food in the maze to see if Nefer figures it out when she gets hungry enough, like she did with the UFO.

I suspect I'll be woken up at 3AM by a very hungry cat.

Poor Nefer.

I had a cat who figured out how to reach into an automatic feeder and winkle out individual pieces of food. He'd do this even when the tray was full. And he taught the other cats to do it too. He'd have *loved* the food maze.

The cats I had growing up learned how to use their paws to get food out of the automatic feeders, which is why I never understood why Nefer wouldn't do it. :)

My cats hated it, not because of the oddness of having to play for food, but because the dish at the bottom and the bottom of the maze did not have enough space between them for my very large kitties to fit their heads comfortably.

Nefer can ger in there, luckily, but just seems disinclined to make the connection between putting her paw in the maze and getting food into the dish. XD

Nefer sounds a LOT like my cat. She is generally annoyed when we expect anything too cat-like out of her, because that is all BENEATH her. (Oh and those other two cats are also morons :-D)

She's quite easy-going in other ways, but stubborn in a few: she does NOT like to be picked up, she does NOT like to be on an unstable surface, and she does NOT like to have to work for her food!
