Mysterious Package: The Revelation!

And now it's time for the final showdown! What you've all been waiting for! The moment when I reveal to you ... what the mysterious package contained!

And the winner is.............

Manga that someone swapped me for that I forgot all about!!

Yes, you may all now thank our very own [livejournal.com profile] sub_divided for providing endless hours of tedious speculation and entertainment! I completely forgot that she was due to send me a head three volumes of manga (Alice 19 volume 1 and Stone 1 and 2, if you care) from a swap earlier.

Now, wasn't that worth it?

The mystery has been solved! I can now go back to my regularly scheduled mundane life.

I'll work on sending you a human head through the mail. I find that they're pretty difficult to come across, at least ones that come without the body and all.

The mystery has been solved! I can now go back to my regularly scheduled mundane life.

I understand how much it obsessed you and all. But you've come through it, and are a better person for it.

Now I feel an odd urge to send you BPAL decants.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-22 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Ha! How funny!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
XD or heads

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-22 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations!

truth to tell, so am I

It's almost tempting to throw one of the mannequin heads I re-discovered in my garage when going through boxes into the mail, just so [livejournal.com profile] telophase can post about it. But I can't afford to mail much of anything atm and I have diabolical head plans for some vague time in the future anyway.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
XD

I used to have a Styrofoam head - apparently for displaying wigs - but it vanished at some point. Mom probably threw it away when I wasn't looking.

I don't know if you'll like Alice 19, but in Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden, the heroine studies naginata and likes to hit people.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Whether I like Alice 19 immaterial, because in it is a bunny with inked fur and expressive eyes, if you see what I'm getting at.

*steals like a stealing thing*

I may have to try FYGK...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
* er ... I may have to try FYGK..., not italicized...

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ohh, I see. You know it's a kind of woman-fairy-bunny, right?

I think later I will hit you up for a squirrel icon.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I read about three chapters at lunch today. Anyway, the way the fur and the eyes are drawn seems to be something I should try to emulate.

Speaking of which, did you ever get the manga that I sent you?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Assuming it was Yu Yu Hakusho, yup. (I'm so bad at linking real names and LJ names XD.) And that address the second-coolest road name EVAR.*

*The first coolest is a street in North Dallas - maybe in Plano - which is "Spyglass Drive." Tell me you wouldn't want to live on Spyglass Drive. XD

[personal profile] settiai 2005-07-23 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
*lol*

Would it make it any cooler if I told you that the reason it has that name is because there used to be three cemeteries on my road? One, the medium-sized one, is still there. Another, the smallest one, was a former slave graveyard that's now been turned into a field on my property. The last, which was the largest one, is now my yard.

Seriously. There are still a couple of gravestones in the middle of our yard.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
OK, that is truly way cool and just may surpass Spyglass. XD

[identity profile] seiyojin.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
In a new village near me there's a Quidditch Road. I want to live there...

[identity profile] pzb.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Damn....no head spam .... And I was looking forward to something quite .... strange.

Speaking of strange, you should be getting a postcard next week. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
OoooOOOoOooo... can't wait. XD

With all the postcards, getting the mail next week should be quite fun.

[identity profile] seiyojin.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
I strangely now have an urge to send you a head. You're going to wake up one day to find a really annoyed postman at your doorstep trying to deliver a dozen boxes of assorted heads from everyone now, I just know it! :D

At least it's more interesting than collecting teapots.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
And quite a change from the postcards I requested, huh? XD

[identity profile] seiyojin.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
What's the fun in sending something you've actually asked for though? *grin*

[identity profile] i-smile.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
...that would have been my third guess! *channels Hermione*

[identity profile] mistressrenet.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it totally was. Though the head would've been better.

[identity profile] sub-divided.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
...XD. I'm working my way back through the flist (in a half hour, I give up!) now. I so totally can't believe you made that package into a mini-mystery.

Even if the manga doesn't work out, I hope you like the box. It's a nice box! Tell me, is Stone working for you better than it did for me? The only references I could specifically peg were Waterworld and Star Wars, so the whole thing can off more generically derivative than inside-joke.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly provided hours of entertainment for people. :) And it is truly a nice box.

There's a lot of Dune flavor, too - moreso the book than the movies, with the tribe Zizi was raised in revering and husbanding the sandworms whales. I couldn't really peg anything else, except a vague Giger-esque look to the sand whales which evokes Alien. Which annoys me, since the explanation in the front of the book was all "You'll find lots of references to SF stuff here!" I didn't. Phooey.

The art is sort of interesting - it intrigues me more than the story. And it makes me want to put together a snarky webpage with scans from various manga with wildly differing art styles so I can throw the link at every teenybopper on Deviantart who posts in the forum with "I want to draw in a manga style. Any tips?" while saying "So ... which of thesemanga styles are you talking about?" and to throw at everyone who posts claiming that manga artwork is derivative and cookie-cutter.

[identity profile] sub-divided.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I forgot about Dune. That's a pretty big one. I was also thinking I should be able to place the "coming-of-age" ritual, but all I got was a big fat blank.

The art in Stone is cool. If you do end up making that website, I reccommend lots of angular shonen stuff -- shaman king and full metal alchemist. When people say "manga style" they almost always mean a very specific kind of shoujo.
