Mysterious Package: The Revelation!
And now it's time for the final showdown! What you've all been waiting for! The moment when I reveal to you ... what the mysterious package contained!
And the winner is.............
Manga that someone swapped me for that I forgot all about!!
Yes, you may all now thank our very own
sub_divided for providing endless hours of tedious speculation and entertainment! I completely forgot that she was due to send me a head three volumes of manga (Alice 19 volume 1 and Stone 1 and 2, if you care) from a swap earlier.
Now, wasn't that worth it?

I'll work on sending you a human head through the mail. I find that they're pretty difficult to come across, at least ones that come without the body and all.

I understand how much it obsessed you and all. But you've come through it, and are a better person for it.

I used to have a Styrofoam head - apparently for displaying wigs - but it vanished at some point. Mom probably threw it away when I wasn't looking.

*The first coolest is a street in North Dallas - maybe in Plano - which is "Spyglass Drive." Tell me you wouldn't want to live on Spyglass Drive. XD

Would it make it any cooler if I told you that the reason it has that name is because there used to be three cemeteries on my road? One, the medium-sized one, is still there. Another, the smallest one, was a former slave graveyard that's now been turned into a field on my property. The last, which was the largest one, is now my yard.
Seriously. There are still a couple of gravestones in the middle of our yard.

Speaking of strange, you should be getting a postcard next week. XD

With all the postcards, getting the mail next week should be quite fun.

At least it's more interesting than collecting teapots.

Even if the manga doesn't work out, I hope you like the box. It's a nice box! Tell me, is Stone working for you better than it did for me? The only references I could specifically peg were Waterworld and Star Wars, so the whole thing can off more generically derivative than inside-joke.

There's a lot of Dune flavor, too - moreso the book than the movies, with the tribe Zizi was raised in revering and husbanding the
sandwormswhales. I couldn't really peg anything else, except a vague Giger-esque look to the sand whales which evokes Alien. Which annoys me, since the explanation in the front of the book was all "You'll find lots of references to SF stuff here!" I didn't. Phooey. The art is sort of interesting - it intrigues me more than the story. And it makes me want to put together a snarky webpage with scans from various manga with wildly differing art styles so I can throw the link at every teenybopper on Deviantart who posts in the forum with "I want to draw in a manga style. Any tips?" while saying "So ... which of thesemanga styles are you talking about?" and to throw at everyone who posts claiming that manga artwork is derivative and cookie-cutter.

The art in Stone is cool. If you do end up making that website, I reccommend lots of angular shonen stuff -- shaman king and full metal alchemist. When people say "manga style" they almost always mean a very specific kind of shoujo.
