It certainly provided hours of entertainment for people. :) And it is truly a nice box.
There's a lot of Dune flavor, too - moreso the book than the movies, with the tribe Zizi was raised in revering and husbanding the sandworms whales. I couldn't really peg anything else, except a vague Giger-esque look to the sand whales which evokes Alien. Which annoys me, since the explanation in the front of the book was all "You'll find lots of references to SF stuff here!" I didn't. Phooey.
The art is sort of interesting - it intrigues me more than the story. And it makes me want to put together a snarky webpage with scans from various manga with wildly differing art styles so I can throw the link at every teenybopper on Deviantart who posts in the forum with "I want to draw in a manga style. Any tips?" while saying "So ... which of thesemanga styles are you talking about?" and to throw at everyone who posts claiming that manga artwork is derivative and cookie-cutter.
