*cough* One of the things I was dealing with on the Monday from hell this past week. (Plz to not post the name of either organization in comments: we're staying very quiet until it's fully resolved, which should hopefully be this upcoming week.)

Read. Jesus. I'd heard things about the org in question prior to this, and nothing that recommended them to me. Certainly nothing to contradict the perception of half-assery and bullshittery.

Yeah. A letter has been drafted remaining most utterly polite and mystified as to how such a misunderstanding could have been perpetrated on them and asking for the handover of the item in question. With an offer to reimburse exactly the amount that was paid for it, because nobody feels like being in ANY way beholden to the other org, at all, ever.
