I JUST NOW realized something...
OKAY. So a few months back I mentioned Brent Weeks' Night Angel Trilogy in passing. And that
myrialux had been reading them. He's finished them now (report: not the best books evar, but kept him entertained), and had been telling me bits and pieces about them.
One of the things he told me was something that we both don't particularly like: taking two or three Earth cultures and smashing them together without rubbing quite enough serial numbers off of each one. In this particular case, it's having a nation of redheads who carry katana-like swords and live in houses with sliding doors made of paper.
It made me roll my eyes a bit and think "OKAY!" until ...
... today.
About ten minutes ago.
I just realized EXACTLY WHO THESE PEOPLE MUST BE.

I THINK I MAY ACTUALLY APPROVE OF THIS
Some commenters have helpfully pointed out other residents of this land...

I APPROVE, PERHAPS, EVEN MORE

I am shocked and dismayed to realize that with all the wild hair colors displayed by the huge cast of SDK, not one is inarguably red-headed.
Benitora's hair is almost completely buzzed off (and in any case, he has his tiger-striped do-rag on almost always), but what's shown of his hair is pinkish-red. (And red would go with his monicker, which translates as Red Tiger.) But he wields a spear (or later, a trident) rather than a sword.
Otherwise, Hotaru's and Yuya's blond hair is sometimes colored as strawberry blond (like Ichigo's, almost), Akira's shows up as beige-apricot sometimes. Akari's is pink, plain and simple, which I don't think counts.

Thus far, it seems that the species has no females. This may make for happy happy BL/yaoi fangirls but seems to guarantee short survival of the group!

Oh! Would Yoko from Twelve Kingdoms meet the definition?

I was about to say Yes, but then noticed that the sword isn't a katana...so I dunno.
ETA; I just found a pic with a much more katana-like sword. XD Going up shortly!

(The Twelve Kingdoms are several removes from Japan, but then, Rukongi isn't quite Japan either ... .)

My brain is also now breaking while trying to translate that title: is it really "Sailor uniform please!"?
