What's scary is the amount of comments of 'I don't get it'. Or 'these aren't bad'.
Ads talking about how horrible a woman is if she doesn't smell 'feminine' (ie, use a product to mask her body's scent) for men or how she's going to get spanked for not checking her man's coffee? Those are *creepy*.
I have the same reaction to that as I do to Sora after he's been a jerk to Nefer, she smacks him down, and he goes off and sulks: "Awww, poor baby! It's so hard being a cat!"
Smart. I should've done the same. But I read about a third of the comments before my blood pressure shot up to stroke-inducing levels and I had to stop. *seethes quietly*
I, uh, may have snerked at the VW one, though. I am a horrible person. Interesting, though, that I've seen a lot of Beetle ads, and I've never seen that one before.
I'm old enough to remember the endless ads for douching/'feminine hygiene' products in 1970s teen magazines... though I wasn't quite old enough to realize what the heck 'feminine odor' was supposed to BE or from whence it allegedly emanated. I sure did get a strong impression that you were supposed to deodorize the heck out of it, whatever it was, and I was starting to get anxious. Did I need to go buy some product or another? How would I even know what to do with it?
Then I saw some news items about a 'feminine spray' that had been shown to cause irritation and even infections, and which was promptly taken off the market. Luckily that had far more long-term impact than those hideous, flower-filled ads trying to convince me that I SMELLED. :P

Also, really just need to tape a note to the top of my screen saying "Don't read the comments".
