I am reminded of one of the early design meetings at my last job for the shiny new browser-based version of our (enterprise financial) software. The VP of Sales showed up late and shared his insight on the appearance of our portal: it should look more like the home page for Nick Jr.

Of course, portals of any sort were a generally dumb idea, but fortunately the project had enough false starts that by the time it really got going, they were no longer trendy so we didn't have to have one.
