Friskies Cat Cam Photo Pool

Via the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee - Friskies cat food picked 50 cats across the US to wear a camera on their collar for a week which takes a photo every 15 minutes. Starting October 1st, an animal behaviorist will analyze the photos. The best part, though, is that the owners are uploading a selection of pics each day to the Friskies Cat Cam Focus Group Pool on Flickr. (If you use a feedreader you can get an RSS feed of the pics as they're psoted here.)

I want one of these myself, just to satisfy curiosity. I particularly have to agree with the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee on getting one with an infrared lens, because I want to see exactly how many times my cat Leiber decides he has to bounce on my ass every night while I'm trying to sleep.

I'd love to find out the source of various mysterious sounds we hear at night that I'm pretty sure are the cats getting into or knocking over something. But investigation rarely produces results, especially right now as most of our belongings are haphazardly piled in the dining area.

I used to get those noises and they generally resolved to a chicken or pork chop bone polished clean under the table the next morning. She never tipped the trash over though---she was a highly skilled cat.

So far we haven't found anything but the stuffed hamster out in the hall, moved from its original place. I'm thinking some of the noises are just the cats jumping off of something and landing on the hardwood floor, and we're not used to that yet as my previous apartment had carpet.

I sure hope they are paying Mr. Lee's owner some money for his creative work on this.

The camera is available commercially now - it's that company you have to hope paid Mr Lee's owner.

The Amazon reviews are basically - either it fails to work out of the box, or it works just fine and then the pet dunks it in the water bowl and it stops working.
