And the humidity isn't even that low! I have an awful time in the winter from dry skin, but this year it's continued through the summer.

I feel your pain! :( Got the same problems all year around for different reasons due to dry skin combined with heat/cold allergies.

Ow. Lotion? Any help at all?

Not really. I end up greasy and itchy. :) The oatmeal bath stuff works to some extent, but taking *too* many baths and showers makes it worse, as the thin layer of natural skin oils is washed away.

Is your water heavily chlorinated, by any chance? I've been kind of cranky about the water quality ever since I moved to the DC/VA area years ago, as the water is much harder than I'm used to and much more heavily chlorinated (and they seem to step up the chlorination in the summertime for extra funsies -- you'd turn on the shower and it practically smelled like the water was being pumped in directly from a swimming pool.) Installing a water softener isn't really an option since I rent, but in a fit of experimental desperation I recently bought a filter doohickey for just the shower, and ZOMG I am in *love*. My skin and hair are much happier and my hair dye stays bright for much much longer.

I don't think so, but might be worth trying when we move to the new house ([livejournal.com profile] myrialux is very picky about shower heads, so they'll be replaced the moment he sets foot in it - could install a filter at the same time).

*nods* () Most of these things are set up to fit between the wall pipe and the shower head, so it's just one quick extra step so long as you're climbing up to do a replacement anyway. The filter replacements aren't cheap, but then again I've been saving some money by not needing to use as much shampoo/shower gel to get a decent lather, using lotion less often because my skin's not as dry, not having to touch up the hair dye as often, etc., so it balances out somewhat.

(Right now I'm using the Aquasana (http://www.mrwaterfilter.com/shower/choose.php) shown here with the main shower head, and I'm ordering a Sprite shower hose filter to go on my currently unfiltered handheld side attachment -- I mostly stopped using it once I had the filter on the main shower head because the difference in water quality was so noticeable.)

Huh. Any chance you're reacting to a residue from a laundry product?

Doubt it, as I've been itching for a long while now, and have had two different detergents in the meantime, both Free & Clear-type ones (non-F&C type ones do make me itch, in a different manner).
