Hotel near UT Austin?

I'll be in Austin on the 24th for a one-day workshop held on the UT campus, and want to know if any Texans here know of a decent hotel that's not hot and cold running roaches in the vicinity. I'm getting reimbursed for this by the school, so this isn't the time to be going for the nifty hotel that costs a bit more, otherwise I'll be frowned at Very Sternly by the admin assistant. :)

I'll ask Lorenzo, whose virtues I was trumpeting on your political post earlier. We actually stayed in a decent hotel when his daughter was Bat Mitzvah'ed, but I don't know how near the campus it was ... it wasn't near his house, and he lives close enough to walk to work at UT.

Thanks! :D (I'll be in Tulsa all weekend at Tokyo in Tulsa, not telling when I'll get to a computer so I may be late in any answering I do.)

Lorenzo says:

'The canonical "cheap but decent" choice is the Days Inn at 3000 or so IH-35. It's a bit noisy, since it's right on the freeway, but it's just off the northeast corner of campus. If her event is at the Thompson Conference Center or the LBJ library, that would be really convenient. If it's at the main library, which is in the SW corner, it's a real shlep. The southern edge of campus (MLK blvd, formerly 19th street) is quite close to the capitol (13th street), which means that there are a lot of nearby hotels, but they're not particularly cheap.'

I am indeed at the Thompson Conference Center, so that would probably be perfect. :D

if by "close" you mean "a few blocks" there are some rather nice hotels on 6th street. I've stayed at the Extended Stay America at the corner of 6th and Guadalupe, and it was pretty good. The Driskill Hotel on 6th is also rather nice. Both offer State Rates.
