A big brown bat got into our attic a couple months back; problem is, that's where Wifey and I keep our home office. We chased it around for a while (we even tried to shoo it out an open window, but the silly critter was having none of that (we were making a concerted effort to avoid hurting it).
There's a happy ending to the story, though. We tired it out and it lit on some high shelves. Exhausted ourselves, we flipped off the lights, closed the attic door and went bed, figuring we'd try catching again during the day.
I haven't seen it since, and I haven't smelled smelled anything dead, but I did notice a gap in the insulation over one of the dormers which looks just big enough for a small critter to have pushed its way through.

I figure it must've found its way out.
