I admit that I've been curious about Japanese science fiction in general for a while, ever since the Ghost in the Shell 2 tie-in novel came out. Really, it hasn't been terribly easy to come by, though.
Now, I've got two Haikasoru books that are near the top of my reading list. One (http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Sands-Time-Novel/dp/1421527626/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244491158&sr=8-1) looks like it could be a keeper, the other (http://www.amazon.com/All-Need-Kill-Hiroshi-Sakurazaka/dp/1421527618/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b) looks interesting enough to read but I suspect I'll be passing it along to a good home after.
The review of All You Need is Kill that he linked to made it sound interesting, although I suspect I won't be able to get through it based on the excerpt, but the Zoo anthology looks interesting.
I'll try to remember to post my thoughts on All You Need is Kill once I read it. I'd probably be willing to pick up Zoo on the strength of Calling You, though maybe not as I ended up getting rid of that book in my most recent purge.

And a TOTALLY ADORABLE pic of, not a monkey, but a baby chimpanzee (http://morguefile.com/archive/display/161998).
ETA: Although I stupidly made them 72 pixels wide, not 100, so let me redo them...
ETA2: And now in proper LJ size!
