THE BURNING BUSH
Remember that recipe I posted a few posts back, from the 1950s home ec book? The one called Burning Bush?
I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE NOW.
But you'll first have to suffer through a couple of funny pictures of my cat and a bento.
TALK TO THE PAW!

Such a guy - always sitting with his legs sprawling out. XD

This is the bento I had on Tuesday. The rice looks dirty 'cause technically it is: I used the spoon I'd put the beans in with to pat it into shape. :D On the left: salted cucumbers, sweet simmered shiitake, turkey dumplings, grape tomatoes. On the right: black beans simmered with sugar and soy sauce, and rice. And a penguin full of soy sauce.

This is the infamous Homemaking for Teen-agers book. You can see the bilious green cover with the confused boy and his robotic date.

Before we get to the Burning Bush, have a grape salad: smear pear halves with cream cheese and stud it with grape halves, then serve on a lettuce leaf.

And some Christmas salads: gelatin and stuff wrapped up in a cream cheese bow.

HERE WE GO!! The Burning Bush! Recipe included!

And I SPARED EVERY EXPENSE in bringing you a colorized version, so we can all witness the glory that is THE BURNING BUSH! (The distortion is my fault - I photographed it at an angle to get rid of glare, then used the perspective tool to (imperfectly) restore it to semi-straightness.)

This is from another book that I forgot to photograph the cover of. It's Junior Homemaking. Note the substitution of chopped nuts for the chipped beef. COINCIDENCE OR CONSPIRACY?!

How would you eat the pear salad?

Although, with that name it's begging for an altered version involving a caramelized sauce and flaming rum.

OMG, the Burning Bush color photo--try focusing and unfocusing your eyes slightly on it. It's pulsating at me! AAAGH!

But um, the things they used to suspend in jelly/aspic/gelatin are sort of cringe-worthy. XD

they sure like their cream cheese, though.

Secondly, the burning bush looks absolutely hideous. It does not even look appealing and why would you even want to eat something like that? Those wacky fifties.

He has never found a need for it. :D
