Telophase's Massive Manga Dump

Dumping a bunch of my manga that I no longer read, whether it's because I decided I didn't like it after reading 1 or 2 issues, or because I thought it was good but not good enough to read again, or because I have duplicates.

Up for sale or swap with manga, books, or interesting stuff - if you want to buy, it's $5/each just because it's a nice round number and about half the price of them normally. Or, hell, just make an offer, I'll probably accept it to get them the hell out of the apartment unless someone else trumps you with a bigger offer. :) Either post here or email telophase14 {at} gmail {dot} com.

My current wish list consists solely of Vagabond 12 , Rurouni Kenshin 6 , and Usagi Yojimbo 6, but feel free to let me know of anything you've got, including paperbacks and random interesting stuff. :)

[ edit 1 ] Also check the comments for things other people have up for trade.

Notes:

[*] (Descendants of Darkness) Yes, I'm getting rid of it - I can't tell who any of the characters are, nor do I care. I'll probably Netflix the DVDs, though, since I've heard they're better than the manga.

[**] (Lupin III) I wanted to like this, I really did. I love the Lupin III movies and the TV episodes I've seen, but the manga didn't do a thing for me. I probably have book 4 around here somewhere, but I'll be damned if I know where.

[***] (Megatokyo) 376/500, signed by Largo. No, I wasn't impressed, either.

[****] (Dance Till Tomorrow) I've got most of the rest of them, but they're in boxes in my mom's house. It's also got a lot of semi-explicit sex in it - a hard R rating, I think.

[*****] (Dolls) This is not the Tokyopop DOLL, it's the VIZ Dolls, which is actually much the same thing only the dolls are plants instead of robots.

I will reach the end of Fushigi Yugi soon and will want more Yu Watase crack; should I go with Ceres Celestial Legend or Imadoki? I know little about either series, but I will trade for whichever you favor (if either). I'm also interested in Descendants of Darkness.

Manga-wise, I have Hellsing #1, Rune Soldier #2, and The Aromatic Bitters by Erica Sakurazawa. And I have LOTS of random books and junk, but here's the start of my "sell on Half.com ASAP" pile: Brown Girl in the Ring by Nalo Hopkinson, UK edition of Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer, UK edition of Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella, Angel: The Longest Night ("Angel" pro-fanfic collection), Fables: Storybook Love & Fables: Animal Farm (tradebacks #2 & #3), and an unopened DVD of Ever After.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ceres is more on the magical side of things, while Imadoki is a highschool romance. I found the main character of Ceres slightly less irritating than the main character of Imadoki. :)

I've already read or rejected your manga ;), but I'm interested in the two Fables and the Hopkinson.

more books, for anyone

[personal profile] octopedingenue 2005-06-11 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Cause Celeb by Helen Fielding and an audibook CD version of Storm Front by Jim Butcher (autographed by him), read by James Marsters. It is a giant audiobook white elephant on my shelf and I want it gone.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
* and I meant to say that those two and the Hopkinson sound like a good swap for DoD and whatever other one you wnat.

Thank you! I'll take DoD and Ceres, then; I'm a sucker for magical melodrama. I'll get Fables and Brown Girl in the mail to you next week. I enjoyed them, but not enough to keep them.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No prob! You probably know of the existence of the address post by now - I'll get the package off Monday, hopefully.

Just a tag to let you know I got your manga-package in the mail and sent your package off yesterday. wasn't certain if you'd said you wanted $ for the bookmark (OMG SO CUTE) or not, so I'll mail that later in an envelope if so. Thank yoooou!

Ever since your "Fruits Basket" layout post I spend too much time noticing how confusingly the panels are laid out in "Descendants of Darkness", but it's still cracktastic. :D And Aya in "Ayashi no Ceres" didn't immediately make me want to hit her like Miaka did!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-22 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, don't worry. ;) I've been OMG BAD and run late in mailing lots of things out, so I'm tossing extras into just about every package that goes out of here at the moment, so we'll just call it that. :)

DoD was just starting to drive me crazy, plus I couldn't keep the characters straight and realized that I didn't care about any of them, so I decided it wasn't worth dropping any more money into it. I think I'll Netflix the DVDs though, since I've heard that the anime solved a lot of the problems that the manga had.

Awwww, no love for Kodocha? If you don't mind waiting until mid-July for the manga:

-$15 and the first two volumes of Stone for Banana Fish (all).
-$5 and the first volume of Alice 19 for X-day (all)
-$10 for Tokyo Babylon and Doubt!!

Or if you don't want the manga I could substitute cash. Stone has a plot like Waterworld's and some really funky pencil-drawn backgrounds, but the point is to reference as many sci-fi movies as possible and I'm not getting the references. Alice 19th is from the Ceres manga-ka, and it's about a shy girl learning to stand up for herself. The love interest, as always, looks exactly like Tamahome.

What are Shadow Star and Snow Drop?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Shadow Star concerns these kids who've found these star-like aliens and bonded with them. The main character is Good, but the others are Evil and are out to kil/maim/whatever. The art style is kinda funky and scratchy, and it can get fairly violent and intense.

Snow Drop is a highschool romance manwha - rich reclusive girl who loves plants falling in love with a not-so-well-off boy named after one of the characters in a book her mother wrote. Complications ensue, not the least of which is her father engaging her to the son of one of his business partners. The boyfriend is also a model (well, who isn't in manga/manwha?), because his mother's in the hospital and he's earning money.

I haven't read either Stone or Alice 19, so I'm up for that - sounds good. :)

[identity profile] ninjashira.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Alice 19 is really good, but it takes until the second volume to actually get real interesting. So it's definitely worth getting, but don't be disappointed after volume 1, cause it does get better.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
*And I just found Snow Drop 5 hiding on my bookshelf.

[identity profile] sub-divided.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I've never read Korean romance manga before--just some historical/action stuff. I think I'll pass, though, because my budget is getting sort of stretched and the girl sounds like someone I'd get mad at every two pages. (Why aren't you doing anything! Stop staring and brooding and blushing and make a move already!!! That sort of thing.)

But Shadow Star sounds great. It's exactly like the plot of Scorpion Shards (trilogy by Neil Shusterman) except that the main character is good and not evil. $20 for 1-5, no duplicates? That will bring me up to a nice round $50.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Heehee. OK, sounds good, Shadow Star it is, then. :) I'm going to post my address in a friendslocked entry and keep the comments screened so people can feel free to post their addresses there without them being out in the open.

[identity profile] ninjashira.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I could go for the Alchino and Get Backers. I heard Get Backers was teh_awesum, and I've been ordered to read it. Is the Escaflowne you have the shoujo or shounen version? Because I have the shounen, and I don't like it. But I really wanna read the shoujo version of it.

And oh my Goooddddd do I have manga to get rid of. I've got To Heart 1, Real Bout High School 1-3, Crescent Moon 1-3, Mahoromatic 1, Ranma 1/2 1 (I have 1 since a friend bought me another one for my birthday}, Escaflowne (shounen) 1-2, and Chronicles of the Cursed Sword 1.

Annnnd if you don't want any of those, I'll just pay the $10 :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the shounen Escaflowne. :) I'd be interested in the Crescent Moon, I think. :) I haven't read it yet.

[identity profile] ninjashira.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
All righty then! Crescent Moon 1-3 for Alchino and Get Backers? :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds great - I've got your address from DA, and mine's in the friendslocked entry after this. :)

[identity profile] the-z.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Both Alichino and GB are great series! Alichino is eye candy and GB... well, it has Ginji and he just makes the entire series worthwhile! (But it also has great action, plot, and characters besides). Alichino reads like a gothic fairytale.

[identity profile] teleute12.livejournal.com 2005-06-12 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Would you be interested in any or all of vols 1-4 of Mars? I like the series but not enough to keep collecting it, and I need the space on my bookshelf.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-12 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've got 'em already, but thanks. :)

Do you happen to know anyone who'd be interested in a copy of Yu Yu Hakusho, Volume 6? I accidently bought two copies, and I can't find anyone who wants it.

Also, I'd be glad to take Gunslinger Girl off of your hands. :-)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hrm. Not sure. Hell, trade it to me for Gunslinger Girl - I'm reading YYH in Shonen Jump right now, but it's one of the series I fully intend to get in the trades one day, might as well get a head start.

[personal profile] settiai 2005-06-23 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
That would be great. *grin* YYH's in perfect condition -- never even read. My boyfriend bought it for me, and he didn't know that I'd already bought one for myself.
