Action photos of gulls stealing ice cream.

Many years ago, I spent a few hours walking around Inverness, Scotland. I stopped by a McDonald's*, which was packed standing room only with people eating their lunch. I thought that was ridiculous and took my lunch outside to a bench.

Shortly thereafter, I learned why everyone crammed themselves into the store to eat when I was mobbed by gulls. :)

* I'd been in the UK for 4 months by that time and was feeling homesick for American fast food.

I had that happen to me at San Diego Sea World, only it was about 5 inches of churro that the bird nipped off, and it was so smooth that I just had to laugh. If I'd lost my ice cream cone I'd have been much less amused!

WOW! Cheeky buggers.

Inverness! I eloped there. :)

[Also, sadly, the first thing I did when I arrived in Edinburgh was head to the nearest Burger King.]

Ice cream's far from the weirdest thing I've ever seen gulls eat. Whoever dubbed them "rats with wings" was right on the money -- I've seen them eat lettuce, for Christ's sake.

Even funnier are the remarks from the wildlife-clueless commenters who think those are albatrosses, not gulls because of their size. Herring gulls can have a wingspan of more than 5 feet, boys and girls. Don't mess with Mother Nature!

When I lived in San Diego as a child, gulls used to bully me for food, but I learned to carry a stick and keep my food close like a proper monkey >:(

Goodness. Those little suckers are aggressive, aren't they?

says the woman who lives on the coast...

seagulls = rats with wings, I swear. *grump*

The students in the single-room dorms in Aberdeen, Scotland used to (when I was there) hang their perishable goods out the room windows in plastic grocery bags. The local seagulls frequently went "shopping", ripping the bags open and scattering the contents.
