I love red pandas. I like to visit the ones we have at the National Zoo really early in the morning when there's nobody jostling to look at them, and just watch them stroll around and cling to trees and be the cutest animals in the world.
So cute! I wondered if it was the special cat in Azumanga Daioh, but reading the article you linked I see it is from the Himalayas, rather than an island around Japan. I then had to google up the cat I was thinking of, the Iriomote cat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iriomote_Cat). Alas, there isn't a good picture -- probably because it is so rare.
