ConDFW

Four days gone and skip=360 YOU PEOPLE ARE INSANE.

Am still very tired - migraine last night, so dealing with migraine hangover. Have been burning dollar bills to raise apartment temp to 78 so I can take a warm bath and actually remain warm while in tub, the psychological effects of which are totally worth the money.

Con was a con. Well, the best year we've had yet, attendance-wise, beating the Lois McMaster Bujold year. Of course, we did have both David Weber and Jim Butcher as GoHs this year, which might have had a wee bit to do with it... Jack McDevitt as GoH next year, and we're working on another one, to be announced when there's confirmation. :D

Note to the world: when you store your crystal meth in your wallet with your ID, don't lose said wallet. You probably wouldn't like the consequences. P.S. When using said wallet to store said things in, plz do not make it a fashionable, expensive, likely-to-be-stolen brand of wallet, mmkay? (It was turned in to the hotel, and they took matters in hand and called the cops. It was not one of our attendees, however. I'd hate to think one of our attendees was that stupid.)

Rachel, two writers in the dealers' room were giving out free CDs with samples of their writing on them. It worked on at least three of us. :)

Other than that, got wrapped in duct tape on Saturday morning in the dealers' room. The woman who was next to me at Ikkicon was there, and I'd fallen in love with her corsets and skirted corsets at the time, and mentioned that I was thinking of getting one. So she made sure to have a couple of larger sizes there. I tried one on, and it fit decently but not quite. I was willing to get it, but then she said that she'd rather sell me one that fit perfectly and if I was willing to, she'd CUSTOM MAKE ME ONE THIS WEEKEND. All I had to do was buy the fabric for it, and bring her a garbage bag. She and a friend of hers wrapped me in the garbage bag and then duct tape, and she used that to make a pattern for it, then made the thing over Saturday and Sunday. I had to run down a lot for fittings, and tended to hang out at her booth, and while she was working on my corset got shanghied into helping other people try on corsets. So I laced up several ladies there. XD

And now I have something funky to wear to cons, which I wanted because more people stop at your table if you're wearing something cool. XD I have a shirt that works with it that doesn't work by itself, and am making Plans for a big black skirt that goes with it. Yay.

I have a Very Needy Kitten now. I think his appetite has grown, as I misjudged the amount of food to leave here and the bowls were empty when I got back. I'd feel guilty except that Someone managed to get on the kitchen counter and (a) nibble both a loaf of bread and a package of graham crackers and (b) find a plastic bag full of Felidae cat food a friend gave me to try out on the counter and dragged it off to the floor, ripped a hole in it, and ate a bit. Neither of them was hungry enough to eat much of the Felidae, so I figure they'd run out of food on Sunday morning. Next time I shall leave another bowl overflowing with food out for them.

And now it's time for my bath. Aaaaaaaaaah.

Sounds like a great time at the con.

I want to ask you about your migraines though. I've started getting them again and woke up with a very bad one this morning. What do you do for them, and how do you decide if it's bad enough to go to the doctor or ER?

What I do for them is take Relpax, often too late to completely abort them because I keep feeling like it's not painful enough to be a real migraine, despite copious evidence that my migraines in general FEEL EXACTLY LIKE THAT.

I have so far never managed to get to a doctor when they're really bad, because at that point I do not want to drive. The last one that bad occurred a year ago January, when I spent two days in misery, especially because it was so bad I couldn't keep anything down but small sips of water - not even chicken broth - and hunger makes them worse. I eventually surfaced enough to call the doctor and request she phone in an anti-nausea medication, and when she did I drove the short distance to the pharmacy to get it. It allowed me to eat a full meal, then I crashed for four hours and when I woke up, the headache was gone.

I *should* have gone in for that one, to see if there was a medication that could stop or alleviate it. Most of mine aren't that bad, they just impact my functioning in minor ways (well, if you count staying home from work minor). Now that [livejournal.com profile] myrialux is up here and living nearby, I might have him drive me to the doctor.

[livejournal.com profile] jonquil posted this list of things she wished she'd known about migraine (http://jonquil.livejournal.com/808527.html) a few days ago. It is full of much wisdom that I ought to try to remember myself.

I went to the doctor last week, though not in the middle of a bad one, and got some Relpax. That and the anti-nausea medicine kept yesterday's from getting a bad hold. I live alone too, and that makes things awkward when you need to see the doctor but really shouldn't drive.

>hugs!<

I've missed having you 'round. Are you done with cons for a bit now?

The next one is Anime Matsuri, in April, then after that A-Kon, whenever that is. :)

Having to leave our cat by herself for a weekend every so often, I got her a continuous feeder and a similar water dish. Sorta like this thing. Very handy.

I definitely want to see a photo of you in the corset.
