A note about the cats...

Nefer has porked up visibly in the weeks since I got the kitten, and I've worked out that it's because she's been sneaking the kitten's food, which has 150% more calories per portion than the adult food. Which is, to be fair, probably flavored cardboard, since it's Indoor Cat type food, meant for indolent inside cats.

Time for Operation Hide Kitten Food. I just bought a Cuisinart, and I still have the box upstairs. I think a hole just the size of the kitten cut in it ought to suffice for keeping Nefer out. For now, at least.

Yup, I'm sure of it. That's the smell of Big-Cat-Small-Hole hilarity. I'd know that smell anywhere.

:D We'll see how it works long-term. Right now, she's pretty easily dissuaded from eating the kitten's food - I catch her there, I simply switch the bowls and she continues her meal from her bowl.

If your situation is anything like what has gone on here when there are two cats, two bowls, and two different foods, each cat is convinced that the other cat is getting something better, and they will switch.

When we got a kitten, the kitten insisted on eating geriatric cat food (defensible as learning by example, or just stupidity?) and the geriatric cat knew damn well that kitten food was super-extra-delicious.

Also, it made her heavier, so she could sit on the kitten and wallop it.

I'm curious to see how that works, as I got the box suggestion the last time I took the cats to the vet. The 25 lb and 17 lb cats need to be on diets, but the 6 lb cat doesn't.

I may need to weight the box down. :) And enlarge the hole as the kitten grows. Hopefully by the time Nefer is small enough and Sora is large enough that the hole works for both, he'll be old enough to be on regular cat food.

I feed my cats <a href="http://www.canidae.com/>Felidae</a>, even when they were kittens. Tabby went from super overweight after being neutered as an older cat, to nice and slim. Jiji also lost quite a bit of weight. I free feed my cats too. It was also the cure to Jiji's reoccuring UTI's. I buy it locally from Canine Commissary, don't know if there's one over on your side of town.

Huh, interesting. I'll have to check it out. I'm feeding Blue Buffalo right now because Nefer throws up the least on it out of all the foods I've tried.

She was always stocky, but not fat until she found the energy-packed kitten food. XD

I had the puking problem with the prescription diet Jiji was originally on for the UTI's. If I remember, I'll send a ziplock bag of it over tomorrow after the L5R game so you can see what nefer thinks of it.
