Random musings

Trying to figure out how many prints to do. I'm really hitting the 4x6 size this time, because I can charge less for 'em and people like cheap stuff. OTOH, I'm also trying to drop prices voerall - I sold a decent amount of 8x10 prints at $10 last year, but I practically sold out of my 4x6 $4 prints. I'm dropping my 8x10 price to $6, because I figure I'll probably make more money that way.

The bookmarks - I think $3 each, maybe with 2 for $5, although that seems like it'd be hard to keep track of. Maybe I'll just do 4 for $10 in case people want to collect all 4 of the Saiyuki boys. XD They're printing out nicely, BTW. Have no clue whatsoever on how many to print out. Hm. I'm taking the train over to the con, so I cna't bring too much bulky stuff, but a friend I'm sharing the room with will have his laptop there for sure; maybe I can convince him to bring his printer as well so I can make a judgement Friday night as to printing more. That might be a workable solution - Friday was my #1 sales day last year. I'm assuming that was due to all the people who were cosplaying on Saturday who had no pockets for wallets and didn't want to carry stuff around. XD

I found some blank cardstock notecards in the scrapbooking section of the craft store today, and got them on impulse - simply colored things print out fairly well on them, so they'll be available as well. Probably at $2/3 each. I haven't decided yet. Any thoughts? I'm trying to sell to 14-year-olds who saved up money or scammed it from their parents to come to A-Kon and thus tend to be surprisingly miserly, especially after they get stunned by how much hotel food costs. :)

I sold my stationary sets for about $3 each. I sold my mini zines for $1, those were easy to unload. Now I wish I could do some fanworks, so I might have a better chance of selling stuff. People are always like, um, what show are they from? I'm gonna try to do prints this time, I still have to draw them...
Hmmnn, I made all my money on Saturday, and closed down early cuz I ran out of stuff. The girl next to me had candy (free) on her table so I'm thinking that's a good marketing idea. She was selling prints for a 10-15 dollars. How are you making bookmarks? I bought some blank ones but my printer does not like them.
With the teenagers or anyone, if it's a fandom they love, they'll buy it, so it just depends I guess. You should come to a convention in Florida, cuz I live here.^^

Heh. Yeah. I've got a few original pieces, but the only one I ever sell is a Gothic Lolita-type girl.

Something I've noticed this past year that [livejournal.com profile] tesstrosa's going to try and that I might try is having a raffle to win a commission.

What I'm doing for bookmarks is using 4x6" photo paper, semi-gloss, printing two bookmarks per sheet, so they're slightly smaller than 2x6", so I can have some border around them to trim. I don't have to trim much, since my new printer does borderless printing, just cut them in half. I got a crafter's paper trimmer similar to this one (http://www.save-on-crafts.com/papertrimmer.html), which cuts a straight line for me.

Candy might help. I've noticed that just *talking* to people who wander by the table helps - many poeple sort of drift by, glancing at what you've got out, but if you say "Hello!" or "Please feel free to look at anything!" then they tend to feel obliged to flip through your stuff. XD

I did talk to people(mainly explaining that I 'really' was the artist), but they wouldn't always talk back to me. Maybe I'm scary looking. I also had 3 ring binders so they could preview the zine, too. I need to get a borderless printer someday. Even if I do bleed images it will put a white border around it. And sometimes it'll spit out paper for no reason, I think it's posessed O_o.

Oh, yeah, there's always the antisocial people who sort of look at you furtively and scuttle on (often that's me XD).

The ones that entertain me the most are the ones that lecture me on yaoi when there's no actual yaoi or even shounen-ai on my table. The sheer fact of showing men as objects of desire equals TEH YAOI to some people apparently.
