I have Furminated my cat, and she loves it. I pulled enough hair to make another Sora out of her coat, and she purred the whole time. That was only from her back and one side, too - she was lying down and while she rolled over to let me comb her belly, she just didn't get the idea that maybe the other side would be good, also.

She throws up so much that I figure any hair that doesn't go down her throat is Good.

Those things are wonderful! I can comb enough fur off my dog to knit mittens u_u; Corgis and their pesky double coats!

I know! I'm looking at this pile of cat fur, thinking "Maybe I can take up spinning..."

There are books on it! I saw a book on spinning dog fur at my Half Price last time I was there. :P

Pookie has a double coat and I have a dog brush like the furminator. Clouds of fur. It's amazing.

I think I've run across something on spinning dog fur recently, but I can't remember where. XD

My aunt is a spinner and weaver, and she has some dog hair yarn that is like cashmere, it's so soft! Years ago she owned a big collie who provided bagfuls of raw material... and Samoyeds make wonderful fiber, since it's pure white.

I am seeing comments of prices in the $50 range. How much did you pay for yours
?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-01-13 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Way too much - $34 at the pet store. You can get them on Amazon for closer to $18 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JKM0LI?ie=UTF8&tag=telophase-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000JKM0LI)Image.

Not too bad. I may have to send one to my mom as she s always complaining about fur.

Going by the Amazon reviews it seems to work for most coats unless it's a dog with thick, coarse hair, in which case it tends to break the hair.

Wow, that sounds like I should get one for the buns. They are both shedding like crazy.

If they like it, it'll be great. :D

I just have to catch my cat sleeping on her other side now, which is going to be hard, as she tends to favor that one side. XD

If you want to try-before-you-buy, I have a Shed-Ender you can borrow for a while: it's the same general concept as the Furminator, sort of a hybrid of a shedding blade and a fine-toothed comb. It works pretty well on Strega when she lets me use it, but she tends to be very impatient with grooming so I don't use it very often (and for Miss B's size and coat type, a proper dog-sized shedding blade is a lot more practical...) Heck, if it works for you and the buns tolerate it, you'd be welcome to keep it, that's how little use I get from it; it's not a bad tool, just not a good fit for my particular needs. (It was a cheap experiment, because I picked it up at LNT on clearance plus a 20% off store coupon, so they were practically giving it away for how little I paid.)

Yes! My cats LOVE theirs. I always get enough hair off to make a new kitty! I have had MUCH less hair around. Between that and being more diligent with replacing and/or cleaning my HEPA filter in the vacuum it's much nicer in the house!

You could shave that kitty bald and she'd still be cuter than anything.
