How I started the morning

*phones doctor*

[livejournal.com profile] telophase: Hi, I went to pick up my prescription and the pharmacy said the doctor didn't authorize a refill because she wants me to come in.

Bunny:* Let me check. Yes, there's a note here you need your annual physical.

[livejournal.com profile] telophase: OK. I have three days of meds left. If I can't get in in the next 3 days, I'll need her to authorize the prescription for me.

Bunny: The earliest physical appointment she has is April 28. Do you want that one?

[livejournal.com profile] telophase: Yes.

Bunny: OK. Is there anything else I can help you with?

[livejournal.com profile] telophase: I have three days of meds left.

Bunny: I can get you in for a medication recheck on Friday the 9th.

[livejournal.com profile] telophase: (having a brain spasm and can't remember if that's this Friday or next Friday) What date is today?

Bunny: Wednesday.

* My mother and I have always called the support staff in dentist and doctor offices "bunnies". I have NO idea why or how that started.

Heh. Fun with doctors offices. I called mine today (cribbing your nomenclature):

Bunny: last name, please?

me: *starts to spell it*

Bunny: last name?

me: *blink* *silence* umm...

Bunny: Your last name?

me: *spells it again*

Bunny: oh! oh, sorry. and your first name?

>.>

My last name is not one of those that is actually a first name as well!

I actually like the receptionists at my new(ish) local doctors surgery, they're super efficient and usually I ring expecting to be seen within a few days and end up having to get dressed unexpectedly fast and get out the door because I find myself with an appointment in 40 minutes time. :D That's in contrast to the doctors surgery where my dad lives, there you have to tell the receptionist what's wrong (and they get arsey if you tell them it's private and you'll only discuss it with the doctor) and you can't book an appointment for a few days time, you have to be poised at the phone at 8am in the hopes you'll be one of the lucky ones to get through first.

I HATE having to tell the receptionist what's wrong! I know they have different types and lengths of appointments depending on what you need, but GAH it's none of their business! There has to be a better way of arranging that.

We have a triage nurse who does that at my primary care clinic. It's nice.

Sounds about as fun as my morning on largely the same subject.

(Though switching my days off so I could go to yesterday's failed appointment has my internal clock very messed up, as I now think it's Thursday, because i'm supposed to be off on Wednesday, not Tuesday.

April?! Wow. When I call up my doc he usually has an open spot that afternoon, or at least the next day. It's hard to imagine having to plan that far ahead to see the doctor.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-01-07 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
If there's an acute complaint, there's an appointment open that day. If it's a generic checkup like a physical, then you have to schedule months in advance. :/

Yeah, but when I say my doc "has an open spot" I mean not "if it's important come now" but rather "I was going to sort some files or something but come on in I'd rather see a patient instead".

Maybe it's a side-effect of living near a major medical center or something. Seems like the docs I've dealt with around here only have about 2/3rds of their days scheduled most of the time.

I very recently switched doctors because my last one's bunny told me that she didn't have time to talk to me about my INCREDIBLE PAIN, I'd have to call back tomorrow.

And then when I got an appointment, I was waiting for two hours before I was actually seen -- two hours after my appointment, no less.

But the new lady is cool; she actually suggests things and listens, and does everything (bloodwork, X-rays, ekgs, etc) in the office.

I'm still struggling to get more Percocet, so I hear you. After two more phone messages I left this week, the admin for me non-TCI neurologist says he doesn't believe in giving heavy painkillers and certainly doesn't believe in going with some other doctor's prescription order. I said fine and asked if I could get an appointment so he could see me and prescribe some kind of painkiller since I am in pain and need medication. Just like I suggested in all my voice messages. She told me to call her back tomorrow.
