Interesting! I have hallucinations of my deceased cat. Sometimes I'll catch sight of her out of the corner of my eye or I'll have the feeling she's in the room with me. Sometimes she's in my dreams. I just assume, seeing as she was very close to me for just over a decade, that these 'visits' are just impressions that have stayed with me and manifest when I'm tired or stressed.
I have other types of hallucinations, however, so I might be predisposed.
Other hallucinations include: seeing a hanged man one morning while cycling to work (I was so startled I hit the brakes so hard I fell over the handlebars), hearing my name being yelled (often), hearing trains for most of my childhood, seeing people that aren't really there, feeling an aggressive presence in my personal space when there is nothing and no one there and one time (I still can't explain it) I was unable to approach a person at a bus stop.
I went to walk past this fellow waiting for the bus and I veered suddenly to the right. I thought maybe I was dizzy, even tho I didn't feel dizzy, so I tried again and found myself veering away from him. He didn't seem to notice me, nobody else seemed to have this problem, and as hard as I tried I couldn't see his face, it was just a blur to my eyes. I couldn't get within ten feet of the guy. It was pretty unsettling.
But, like I said, as much as some people might attribute these things to some sort of supernatural phenomenon I try to look at them as tricks my mind plays on me and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it is somehow linked to being a strong lucid dreamer. If I can control what I see when I'm asleep why can't my brain insert visions/sounds into my waking perceptions?
I've never truly seen a deceased pet, but I tend to automatically interpret any movement out of the corner of my eye as a cat and end up with the impression that a cat is there, even when it isn't. And air currents swirling around my bed at night sometimes give the distinct impression that a cat has jumped on the bed and is curling up in the hollow of my knees or someplace like that - and I had those impressions a LOT more in the year or two after my childhood cat died than any time since. :)
I'm a fairly strong lucid dreamer also - especially when I'm extremely tired, or when I've been awakened for one reason or another in the early morning. I'll know I'm dreaming, and sometimes be able to control it, to one extent or another.
