Yo, [personal profile] rachelmanija!

Blue roses finally exist! Part rose, part petunia (they've got a petunia gene spliced into them).

No word yet on whether they're telepathic or not.

I am such an idiot: I saw that yesterday and it never even occurred to me to point you at it. Glad I'm not your news source. O_o

I dunno ... I mean, from what I understand, other researchers had proved that there would never be blue roses by conventional breeding methods because the roses simply lacked the proper enzymes to create the blue pigment. Given that, it was either be open to a wider range of methods or give up. Dreaming the impossible dream and accepting that "some things will never be" is romantic, but ingenuity has its charms as well.

Yep. Created in a lab!

That's kind of a spooky photo.

I actually read about that in Japanese class a few months ago, but assumed they'd just made their own version of the Blue Girl. These look a lot more vivid.

I like that it's Suntory that's doing this. Maybe the roses smell like whiskey.

Bwah, yes...my first thought was "how long before they bring out a commemorative limited-edition seasonal beer?" XD

They are pretty, anyway!

Why am I thoroughly not surprised that it was a Japanese country, or that it was Suntory, best known for their booze?
