...for yuletide, I have characters in search of a plot, way too many reference books, and a desperate need to plot-noodle except that the only person who's available to do so at a moment's notice* is completely unfamiliar with the canon and everything that has to do with it.

I've been having similar problems, so I definitely sympathize. I've been going over my canon and taking notes. I'm at the point of wanting to bounce things off someone. I just have no one who knows the canon. Very frustrating.

Yup. My brain gets stuck in particular ruts, and I need someone or something else to kick it out of said ruts, but it's really hard when the other person doesn't know the canon, and only knows what I've told them. Which is heavily informed by the frickin' rut my brain is in. Aaaaarg!
