I reserve the right to make a post about this later, but I CAN'T BELIEVE that TWELVE Georgette Heyer novels were nominated, but not my favorite one. I totally would have nominated it, but I thought it was a shoo-in! I at least thought it was in the top TWELVE.
*pouts* I guess nobody but me wants to see Sophy and Charles have hot sex in a stable.
Although really, I only would have wanted to have The Grand Sophy as a backup fandom, so that I could switch out one of my requests in case nobody offered for one or two of them.... but so far, all my fandoms have at least one person offering to write them! So that's good.
I managed to achieve at least one person other than me offering and requesting in the fandoms I requested last night, so I'm happy. :D They're all small enough that I really don't have a clue which one I'll get. XD
Yup! Last year I ended up being 85% sure that I'd get what I got - rachelmanija's request for Onmyouji fic, because there were so few people offering it. I was hoping for more surprise this year, which it looks like I'll be getting. :D
I usually volunteer to write TONS of fandoms but this year I only offered six-- what with the shorter amount of writing time, I didn't feel comfortable offering fandoms where I'd have to brush up on the canon, or fandoms with really extensive canon. I may go in and add more later, but there's really nothing I'm familiar with on the "neediest fandoms" page any more...
I haven't even been looking to see how many request there are for each fandom I offered. I have enough Yuletide neuroses already!
I only offered three last year, and as one of them had no requests, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion. This year I'm offering ten, but one of them has no requests as of yet, and as most of the others have certain historic/mythic elements in common, some basic plot elements will be interchangeable. Hopefully.
I like those, too. XD And am slightly embarrassed at how long mine is, even after saying that anything is OK. Oh well, I suspect it tends to reflect personal preferences: I like more guidance in the requests than others do.
I also realized right after nominations closed that my top choice would have been Vonda N. McIntyre's dreamsnake, had I remembered to actually nominate it.
Also, a Star trek novel slipped in-- Majliss larsen's Pawns and Symbols. Surely that's illegal?
re: the Trek novel - elynross conceded that it slipped past her notice, but as it's being requested and offered now, it would be more trouble to the database to delete it than to leave it. It'll go on the list for next year. (What? Obsessively read all the comments in the yuletide_admin posts? Not me!)
I was researching un-offered book fandoms to see if there's anything I could read over the next few days, & found that, & pointed that out to Elyn-- yeah, it shouldn't have gotten in, but it's too late to delete it now that someone's requested it. ^_^
I'm reading various nonfiction books (because I never read just one book at a time) thinking "Hmmmm, that could make a nice story hook for this fandom...and this one, and this one."
Naturally, I'm sure I'll get assigned one that has nothing to do with what I'm reading. :)
I'm leery of pinch-hitting, because I haven't written enough - no I should say I haven't finished enough - stories to say whether I could hit the wordcount by deadline.
Mind you, I tend to flourish with deadlines, so I suspect I probably could. XD
Hmmm ... my current possible requests short list looks like this:
Barry Hughart - Master Li series
E Nesbit - The Psammead triology
Gouhou Drug aka Legal Drug
Kurosagi Shitai Takuhaibin aka The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service
Michael Chabon - Gentlemen of the Road
R A MacAvoy - Black Dragon series
Samurai Deeper Kyo (anime or manga)
I'm wavering on the Chabon - I'm not sure what I'd want Amram and Zelikman to do, aside from "have more adventures." Kurosagi is being a bit of a problem that way too. And the Nesbit can probably show up again some other year ... .
I keep forgetting to write my letter! And oh god, I'd forgotten how many fandoms I'd offered to write 'any' for. I SUSPECT THIS WILL BITE ME IN THE ASS. But still! Yuletide! Squee!

I picked all easy fandoms, being up against deadline...it always seems to be Pinch Hit time that adrenaline-surges me into new ventures.
