(no subject)

Sometimes it's really hard to tell when a DeviantArt user is uploading stolen art.

I'd never have known that was stolen if I hadn't recognized Paintpixel's work.

Can't...stop...laughing...!!

I especially like his touching portrait of Darth Vader. It's hard to bring that essential touch of humanity to a plastic mask.

*SNORT*

Yes, it took me a while to notice but I HAVE seen that Darth Vader drawing elsewhere. The linework is unmistakeable. *g*

This made my day.

I appreciate the defensiveness of the titles "its messed up but i drew it" and "gaara s*ct*l* style."

(And then you click on "gaara s*ct*l* style" and he says "this is my friend's work." So many layers of deceit!)

I think I shall view him as performance art.

His work is a postmodern response to the performance of traditional Western models of authorship, identity, and personal responsibility in our present age of remixes and flash-mobs.

Dude, he left the watermark on. They're breeding 'em real smrt these days.

You see, this is why i find subscribing to art_theft so entertaining: the dumb art thieves.

[identity profile] droiche.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
D: I've noticed the art thieves usually go to great lengths to insist they're the original artist - "this took me x time to do", "plz don't steal this, it's mine" and so forth. Gwah! Silly people seem to be begging to get caught.

Yeah. As much as I hate watermarking my stuff, it seems to be the only way to stall art thieves at dA.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. Doesn't stop the ones who are just right-clicking and collecting, then who stuff their Photobucket accounts full, but if your URL is large enough, people can at least find your stuff afterward. :D

[identity profile] droiche.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Aye.

[identity profile] flyingpeachbun.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, well he didn't exactly claim it to be his... A lot of people I've come across seem to think they can post anything on DA, like pictures they found that they just like - since they don't actually read the rules ( although I don't read them all either o_o; )
So I dunno if he meant to pass it off as his or not?
Unlike the ones who pretend in their description to make you think they spent hours on it and give some lame explanation...

X3 Oh well~ ( I kinda just think.... D'awww, to be 13 and stupid...)

[identity profile] vestaka.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
ahahaha indeed. Though like flying peach said... I've come across this new trend of people who honestly don't seem to realize that they can't upload other people's art. There was one guy who had a full gallery of stuff he'd clicked on and put up, and all the descriptions were things like 'Thought you'd like this' or 'hey so and so, your favorite character!' really it read like a myspace page for art? Sharing the pictures that he thought his friends would like. It's not right of course, but I'm a little nicer to those people then I am to the ones who do things like... one of my friends had a guy upload all her art (WITH her copyright on), then go to her gallery and accuse *her* of art theft. It was hilarious because we kept laughing over meeting the first MALE 'angela' ever. *grin*

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Heeee! So far I haven't found anyone claiming my art for their own; it's all Photobucket syndrome when I find it.

[identity profile] vestaka.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
x.x photobucket is one of my banes. I hate having to file 'please remove my artwork' forms.

ohoh here's a good one. Someone stole one of my pictures once, then went into ms paint and scribbled clouds over my copyright info (it was int he sky). It was very pixelly and obviously iddn't match the pencils I'd used to do the drawing. So they posted it up and put 'collaboration with jessica douglas' in the description *snickers*

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-08 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't bothered, but it's all fanart. If they were posting my originals, I'd be more annoyed.

Hah! Once I was working with a con that got a picture of a rocket from Brad Foster (as in, they asked him for it) and they got me to draw little clouds of exhaust for it so when you flipped through the program book it looked like the rocket was taking off, and they also got me to color some of his work for our badges that year. I occasionally laughingly refer to myself as "collaborator with Hugo-award-winning artist Brad Foster" because of that, but dear God I'd never even attempt to do it in seriousness.

Hahahah. SUBTLE. VERY SUBTLE.
