My maternal grandfather was a member of Clan Fraser (although it's spelled 'Freasier' in our family XD). My grandparents brought me a skirt in the Dress Fraser tartan one year when they returned from Scotland. :D
I heard about that last week and was amused, though my understanding is that it wasn't registered with the 'main' official tartan registry but a secondary one? I don't know much about tartans in general so I've no idea what that means.
OTOH, I keep meaning to pass the word along to my friend esterchaya who is both a Scottish citizen and an Orthodox Jew.
Also? How cool would it be to have a plaid tallis with matching kipah? I think I need one of those...
A quick bit of Googling and Wikipedia suggests that the Scottish Tartan Authority, which registered the tartan, is currently the only "official" register, but a bill is in the Scottish Parliament to make an official registry (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/7461981.stm) overseen by the National Archives.
So it's not quite yet the secondary registry but probably will be in the future. :D
myrialux lives in an apartment in a bright orange building. Until it finally wore out, one of his favorite outfits was a pair of orange shorts paired with an orange Garbage concert t-shirt. If he stood very still, you'd totally miss him. XD
