More apartment pics!

After work today I went by the new apartment complex to give them my electricity account number and to get more photos with the new camera. I ahve now THOROUGHLY photographed the apartment. And also asked them for a floorplan of my model, so I didn't have to fuss with making it up from the other model anymore.

I think I've finally got a layout that might work,

That big chest of drawers isn't going to fit *anywhere* hidden away. I wnted it in the closet, but the built-in shelf prevents it from getting put in there, I think. (But the short chest of drawers shouldn;t have that problem. I think. It'll fit under one of the sets of shelves, no problem.) So it goes against the bedroom wall where I can stare at it and resent it for being there. It will provide the cat with somehwere she can sit and look superior to me. I'm going to put the three bookshelves I call New Bookshelves in the bedroom (teh horror!), but if I get shades and bolt 'em to the top of the bookcases, they'll blend into the wall a bit.

In the office area, it'll be a bit differeint, most likely. The Scanner or Printer Carts can fit under the desk out of the way while I'm not working with whichever one it is. The other one can sit beside it. (I've got one of those carts, holding art supplies, under that desk right now, so I know it'll fit and give me plenty of space. The two Bigger Bookcases can fit against that back wall and hold reference books.

I think I'm probably going to get the Tylosand Loveseat from Ikea. I'm keeping the End Table because I need a place to put my drinks and a table lamp. The Coffee Table is actually this padded bench, and is a wonderful place to put your feet up, put your laptop, or to store your cat. I think I'm going to indulge in the 6' Expedit Bookcase from Ikea - in the dark color, naturally. It's a 6' x 6' unit with a 5x5 grid square of shelves in it, and you can get drawers and door and things to provide hidden storage.

Anyway, photos! I've got them up in this directory, and you can click to your heart's content. Today's photos start with "IMG_0499.jpg" and continue on down.

Here's a few I want to point out.

The hallway looking down towards my apartment, on the end.

I'm a corner apartment, over my garage, and on the other side there's a stairway entrance. Even better? That stairway goes to the side of the building that has NO PARKING except for the garages. So there will be very few people going up and down those stairs. :D

The light fixture outside my door.

This is where my stairs from my garage come up.

Coat closet next to the front door.

This and this picture show the dining area that I'm turning into my office.

This is the living room looking into the bedroom.

The view from the corner of the living too towards the bedroom door, utility closet, and dining room.

Living room windows and their ODD ODD ODD placement.

Living room towards kitchen You can see how high the counter is on this side.

The nice view

The crummy view (That's a warehouse)

Balcony door opens out...

...to this inspiring view.

It's a fairly deep balcony, though. And shaded, too: the balcony of the apartment above me roofs it over.

IMG_0529.jpg trhough IMG_0544.jpg are all of the kitchen. Look at 'em and weep! XD AlL NEW APPLIANCES!

Funky windows in the bedroom

The wall the bookcases are going on

The side with the bathroom door

GARDEN TUB!

The vanity. Plenty of room for my stuff *and* the cat's water bowl. She likes to drink in the morning when I'm in there.

Closet entrance You can see it's sort of L-shaped.

The other side of the closet. You can see the step up.

My inexplicable outlet, way up high. The cat box is getting plugged in here.

Stairs to the garage!

Storage area at the foot of the stairs, looking from the door to the garage.

Looking into the garage

Now this is where I ahd a bit of a disappointment today. You see, last time I TOTALLY FORGOT to lok in the garage for THIS unit and was going off my memories of the SHOWCASE unit. Bad idea! I don't have the ginormous storage area that one had. But the garage is wider than I expected, and there's still storage space, so I'm not going to ahve a problem. I just won't have STORAGE SPACE. XD

Looking at the previous picture's target from the other side of the garage. There's a chunk o'space there to store stuff.

The garage space itself.

This is what I ahve for storage space, not the big room in the other apartment. What the deal is, is that the first-floor apartment on the other side of that wall takes up more space in this building than it did in the other one. The garage next door to mine attaches to that apartment, I beleive.

But the niche yous ee above and the niche next to the door still give lots of space. It's just not all in one room like the other place.

Something I like: there's a peephole in teh garage door.

Something I REALLY like: there's separate breaker switches for just about everything in this apartment. Unlike my current one, which has EVERYTHIGN in the livingroom, dinihng room, and kitchen except for the stove on ONE switch.

My garage from the OUTSIDE. I'm at the corner of the property, and there's no parking but for the garages here. It's all on the otehr side of the building.

Once this tree grows more, I'll have something shading my view from the warehouse on the other side of the fence. :)

The entire complex looks like this.

The pool.

And a clump of bluebonnets groeing in the vacant lot just outside the property's fence. :)

Very nice, especially for a single person to live in and STILL very spacious. What does rent go for a place like that?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to be paying $999/month for that. $100-125ish (I forgot the exact amount) of that is for the garage, and $20 is for the trash service. And I'm on the edge of the historical district and near the Medical District - the area in general is fairly high-rent. I could get something larger for less if I moved south of I-20, but the reason I was looking in this area was to shorten my commute, and that wouldn't have done it. XD

Looks good!

[identity profile] movingfinger.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Looks lovely! So clean and crisp. The arches molded over the doors are very nice. Good move!

You have modern wiring! God, I envy you. The midair outlet in the closet might be for charging things (like a cordless vac)? A light? The balcony is wide enough to be usable! But the dinky window in the bedroom... I do not understand.

Go bluebonnets! Set seed and spread!

ETA: isn't that one-armed "loveseat" technically a recamier?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I am looking forward to this wiring. My current apartment eats light bulbs (I haven't switched to CFLs because I'm afraid the apartment would eat them too, but as soon as I move I'm getting them) and I haven't run my microwave at higher than 60% power since I first moved in, because at 100% power, if the computer or TV is on, it blows the circuit.

I am considering plants for the balcony! I never go out on this one because I have to keep the cat inside since I'm on the first floor, but with this one, I can let her out onto the balcony if I'm there. I may see if I can grow tomatoes, since I hate store-bought ones but love home-grown ones. And I am eyeing the roses at the Antique Rose Emporium (http://www.antiqueroseemporium.com/) speculatively. I had a rosebush at my previous apartment until a frost killed it.

On the third-floor version of my apartment, the weird bedroom window is actually a window in a niche, which makes sense. Why they put the same window in *my* version, I will never know.

(I have no idea about the loveseat/recamier thing. Theoretically I can purchase another one later and put them together into a sofa, or to buy a chaise and make a sofa-chaise. XD)

[identity profile] movingfinger.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Container gardening tomatoes is easy; cherry tomatoes are great in containers, as they seem to grow faster! You may have to pollinate by hand. Hey, you might even be able to have cucumbers and peppers (peppers also good in containers). A real rose would be lovely if you sit outside... I guess your limiting factors are how hot it gets (so stuff doesn't bake) and supplying water.

If you think about letting that ingenious cat out onto the balcony, do consider fastening on some kind of additional kidproofing mesh so she can't eel out through the bars! I have seen cats do the craziest, unlikeliest things to get off porches and roofs. Just because it's there.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmm, cucumbers would be nice, as they're getting more and more expensive nowadays. If I get a rosebush through the Antique Rose Emporium, they're located in much the same climate as I am, and they get a lot of their roses through finding them in area graveyards and things, so I should be able to get something that works in this climate.

I'll look into mesh of some ilk for her! She's a sweet cat, but I have little faith in her common sense or balance, as I have seen her fall into the (empty) bathtub before. XD

[identity profile] riofriotex.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Looks like the cat has the run of the garden tub too. But then, I hardly ever use mine - I use the walk-in glassed-in shower.

I am jealous of the pool though.

Not that odd on the living room window placement - maybe so an entertainment center or sofa can fit between them?

Not sure why on the bedroom windows though. What's outside?

Ceiling fan in bedroom?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
In the 3rd floor version of the floorplan, there's a niche in the bedroom there. Why they kept the same small window in the non-niched bedroom...?

There is indeed a ceiling fan in the bedroom. :D Not in the living or dining rooms, though, so I may purchase a floor fan for those rooms.

[identity profile] miss-maroo.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I am very jealous of your garden tub. You must take many bubbly baths. Also, it looks like a fabulous cat washing location.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] myrialux is jealous of the tub, too. He'll just have to drive up here more often and use it! XD

[identity profile] homasse.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so jealous of your new place! It looks so huge and spacious!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
By Japanese standards, very much so! XD It's about the same square footage as my current apartment, but the bathroom, kitchen, and closet are literally twice as big as my current ones, so the living room and bedroom are feeling small to me right now. But I'd rather have larger closets, kitchens, and bathrooms, so I'm happy. :)

[identity profile] ninja-tech.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Does look nice! I remember when Nailz and I moved into a new place that was bigger and had a balcony it felt like heaven...Hope yours feel the same!

You'll have to report on the soundproof-ness. One thing that you can never really tell until you move in. For our apato, you can hear everything that goes on in the next apartment by sitting in the bathroom - it's as if they are right there. This is better than in the last apartment where I could hear my downstairs neighbors loud sex coming up through the floor. It didn't help that I slept on a Japanese-futon inspired bed...

Also - corner apartments are the way to go!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The only noise I should be getting is from the apartment on top of me, as I'm separated from the apartment in front by a breezeway and the apartment to the side by a stairwell. XD Yaay! Hopefully it's better than my current one!

[identity profile] blades-of-ice.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That is an incredibly nice apartment. I'm jealous! And the rent! If one that nice was only $999 a month around here, I'd be out of this house in a flash!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
One of the benefits to living where I live. :) Mind you, the incomes are correspondingly lower, too, so it's not quite that great a deal. XD
