Solved the problem. Got hacked. Now to fix the damn thing.

Thank God they didn't change my admin password.

The projectbluerose.com site is temporarily down because of some strange WTFery. Do any of you Wordpress users have a clue what happened to the option to display a static front page that USED to be on the Options->Reading page? That's vanished - oddly, before I upgraded the site - but all the documentation I can find assumes it's there. WTF?

ETA: It's there in my magatsu.net dashboard, right where it ought to be! But not in the PBR install! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! WTF?! ETA2: OK, figured out that for the option to be available, there has to be at least one page published. This does not explain why it was working before. And why it's STILL NOT SHOWING ANY PAGES OR POSTS OR ANY OF THE CONTENT THAT IS IN THE DATABASE ON THE FRONT PAGE. GAH

A home.php template file left over from earlier versions will sometimes cause problems.

The problem is that it was broken before I did anything. I upgraded in the hopes it would fix whatever it was (and because it needed upgrading anyway.)

OTOH, I think I may have solved part of it half a second ago - inexplicably all my plugins were deactivated and all my posts and pages uncategorized. I just re-categorized one page and the front page showed up.

Still makes no sense whatsoever, but I think maybe I can at least fix it now.


ETA: Wtf? It looks like all my pages were changed to posts. I THROW UP MY HANDS IN DESPAIR

Strangely, they don't seem to have done any of the problems mentioned there except put the two weirdly-named text files into my database - and that was through WP, not through the database, although I'm going to change its password, too, to be sure. No files uploaded, nothing deleted. I found a mention of someone else who had their pages changed to posts, too. There ought to be a way I can change that back in the database somewhere instead of redoing all the pages.

I've just nuked the original admin account and created a new one. What annoys the fool out of me is it was the account with the random number-letter combo password that got hacked, not anything else with less secure passwords. Go fig.

ETA: Dammit, I just realized I have a backup somewhere...but I can't remember where! *headdesk*
