So what was the issue with my car?

I took my car in today after the Check Engine indicator came on. Got it back now...

I changed my answer because I realised that a broken "low engine oil" indicator would be really bad if you did actually get low on oil, because those don't typically turn on until you don't have enough oil to keep the engine from shredding itself. So I could totally see some engineer looking at that and deciding to include it in the "check engine" light conditions.

Also, I'm taking this way too seriously, and should accordingly spend more time thinking about Mello's fabulous ass. Mmmmmmmmmmmm, Mello.

I think that now, every time I look at the dashboard, I will think of Mello's fabulous ass.

You're welcome!

Huh, mine didn't go through. When the "check engine" indicator lights up on my car, it's a set reminder to get a tune-up.

There's only one set reminder on my car, and I managed to accidentally turn it off when I was trying to reset the trip mileage indicator, which I do out of habit every time I fill up because the car I first drove had a broken fuel gauge so we had to go by mileage to know when to get gas. :D

I considered checking Mello's fantabulous assetts, but I decided on expensive repairs because any repair is an expensive repair. ^_~

BTW, I dug my wedding album out of storage. I'll scan and post pics soon. :)

Since we had the same car until last week, I'm going with the answer that matches what happened to mine last month. Cracked me up when the guy came out and told me what it was...

Yup! I'd managed to hit a railroad crossing at too high a speed a few weeks ago, which gave a terrific bang and cut out the electrical system until I restarted the car. So I've been terrified that something was seriously wrong with it. And when the indicator came on, at the same time the keyfob coincidentally died, I assumed the worst. Hah!

I had a bunch of other maintenance tasks done, since they hadn't been done in way too long, so it was far more expensive than it should have been, but worth it in the long run. XD

It was by far the cheapest repair I've ever had done.

Naturally the starter died a week later.

The cheapest repair I've ever had done was on the CRX I used to drive. Someone stole the wheel cover from it (why?). When we went to replace it, they gave us a replacement one free and charged $8 for the labor involved in putting it on. XD

Look on the bright side. The transmission on mine conked out last week. A full inch of movement in the driveshaft, something keeping it stuck in third gear, and enough leaks that there was a quarter-inch crust of transmission fluid all over the underside of the car. $1500-2000 quote for the repair job, after the damn thing already ate $3000 in repairs over the past 6 months. ($750 of which came just the week before. :( )

Which means I inherit my dad's old car and try to pull most of the recently-replaced parts from mine to resell. No sense throwing good money after bad, and I'll get significantly better gas mileage.

That sounds like the car I first drove, which was a lemon, pretty much. We had the engine rebuilt under warranty. I have no idea why my parents didn't just sell it at that point and get something else, but they didn't and I inherited it when I turned 16.

I got very good at diagnosing problems by what smell it emitted through the A/C system.
