Chalk up another to WTF?! JAPAN

Via [livejournal.com profile] kyuuketsukiuri: there's a manga called either "Saint Young Men" or "The Saint Brothers," which can best be summed up as Jesus and Buddha rooming together in Tachikawa in the modern day.

It's not yaoi, and we're not going there. :D

Book Off disappointed me in this department, too! (Though I did find vol. 2 of Tegamibachi, so it was not entirely in vain.)

Why does the world not supply us with reliable sources of crack?!

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I think we already went far enough...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
If I didn't put that disclaimer in there, you just know someone would ask if it was yaoi. XD

WWJD = Who Would Jesus Do? ;3

Ew I hope not, have you seen those characters?

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope Jesus is secretly moonlighting as either a rock singer (Jesus from Sensual Phrase) or an assassin (Jesus from Deadly Machine of Snipe.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
From the description, it seems to be a "young men hanging around trying to figure out what to do with their lives" manga, only the young men in question are Jesus and the Buddha. :D

We are totally going there!

Especially since Jesus apparently looks like Johnny Depp.

I am trying very very hard not to envision the doujinshi which I am sure already exists.

Of course there is

[identity profile] amberley.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I was just wondering if there were doujinshi, but figured of course there would be.

And then I wondered if there were doujinshi of the Ekiben Otaku. No doubt there is.

But it seems entirely possible that there is NOT crossover doujinshi in which the two young men who are Jesus and Buddha ride a train and wind up in the same compartment as the Ekiben Otaku.

Yet.

That ... could actually be sort of interesting. XD

That sounds pretty awesome.

Kid Mohammed Runs the Conbini

As a Catholic, I guess I should be offended at this, but I'm just not. From what I've seen here, I don't think the creators of the manga created it with the intent of insulting Jesus (or the Buddha). I'm sure the Lord has a sense of humor.

It really seems to be a way of looking at the role of religion in today's world, and if I read Japanese at all, I'd be interested in taing a look at it.

Yeah. Morning^2 always has some very interesting, if odd, series. Like this one.

Of course, this could provide a creative person with many more interesting answers to the perennial question "WWJD?" ... .

I like the thought of Jesus contending with teenyboppers who think he looks like Johnny Depp!

I will not think of the doujinshi.

You're totally not thinking of the doujinshi!

I love the Japanese take on Western religion. Pure, unadulterated crack -- there's something about organized Christianity that they just don't seem to grasp, and it's HILARIOUS.

And the Japanese are probably laughing THEIR asses off at every depiction of Buddhism or Shinto in English... :D

Now, the real question is where to find scans... XD

Oh my God - err... Oh, Somebody Else's God - err?

Buddha gets irritated that every time he want to take a nap, local creatures think he is trying to achieve nirvana.

That is so funny. Man, it's hard to be enlightened in this day and age!

Not the first time

I found this pearl today looking for pictures pf Confucius to show my class. It's a Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912) picture of Confucius showing the baby Siddartha to LaoTze. Only about 1,000 years gap going on there.

Once again, Asian crack beats Western Crack.

And you know Muhammad is totally living down the street giving people hell for drinking too much, girls dressing like sluts, and not recycling - I see him as being one of those earnest eco-hipsters.

The doujinshi would just rock.
