And now, the semi-daily [livejournal.com profile] yuletide report: Aaaaarg ... I've got several possibilities for things that could happen in said story, but no clue as to why or to what the characters will do about whatever happens. Because the only damn things I can think of have already been done in canon. I've got a ton of notes about theme, setting, characterization, what for want of better phrasing I'm going to call "what is behind things," but ... nothing on which to hang it all. And it's driving me nuts.

Maybe it'll help if people ask me random questions about it (that you won't get answers to, naturally). Of course, that really only helps when the people asking questions have some sort of idea as to what they're asking about. :D

And now I'm going the hell to bed.

Would it help if I said you're still ahead of me?

*sigh*

I really want to get this posted by December 1, too.

Ideally I'd get the thing done by the end of this weekend, at least the draft. Here's hoping. XD

Sometimes it helps me to specifically pick a favorite narrative device and run with it. Or to steal the broadstrokes of the plot from something else as a starting point.

One thing that really helped me when I was blocked on Paper Knives was to write out part of it in script format, as though it were a play or a movie. Not that I know thing one about playwriting/screenwriting, but just the change in format kicked my brain into gear. Would it help you to block out parts of the plot as though it were a manga script?

Just throwing out random ideas on the off chance something will spark against something in y our brain. :-D

:) I think this really wants to be a sort of story I'm not particularly familiar with or necessarily engaged by. Which will make far more sense when I can talk about later. XD

"I begin with two characters who must never meet, and then I bring them together as quickly as possible." -- Charles Feydeau

Or you could seek inspiration from your random cracktastic manga elements generator, even if you wind up not using the things it suggests.

Oh, but you wanted random questions. "Is there a mysterious fox shrine? With a door that must never be opened?"

Even more random: "Is it about the hair?"

I've been so tempted to create a small version of the generator using elements of theme, canon, characters, etc. that I wrote down in an attempt to spark some sort of idea. XD

I think that's a fantastic idea.

Don't worry. I'm currently struggling with how I want to structure my story. Do I do this? Do I do that? What about this? I really should just choose one and run with it!

While poking through books on the shelves for things that might bring inspiration, I got an idea for something to tie it all together. Mind you, I now need the things that are to be tied together, but at least I am one infinitesimal step farther along the path.

Random questions

[personal profile] kate_nepveu 2007-10-30 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
What would happen if

. . . aliens invaded?
. . . a psychopath started stalking people?
. . . someone lost their memory?
. . . a cute baby animal was in jeopardy?
. . . the rum was gone?
. . . the estate was entailed?
. . . some people went to heaven without warning?

Now my brain a story about a cute baby psychopath in jeopardy during the Rapture...

I was thinking the Pogues for the last one, but I suppose the Rapture would work too. =>
