Hair talk. If you don't care, skip.
New hair! Got my hair colored and chopped. The 99% of you who've enver actually seen me in person won't have any clue how different this is - it's much darker and shorter and there's some actual style in it, I promise you, even though it's not coming across very well in the pictures.
I've been trying to find a funky place to do my hair because I hate drab hair. Unfortunately 99% of the places around *do* drab, boring, everyday, conservative hair. Then a coupon for a $99 cut.color for first time visitors from Esoterica Salon crossed my desk. I visited their website and they seemed pretentious enough that they might give good hair. So I made an appointment.
I walked in today and ... the guy who cut my hair had a turquoise Mohawk. This is an excellent sign. And they were willing to dye my hair whatever funky color I wanted it. I went fairly normal - dark, dark brown with subtle red streaks in it - because I want to feel out my workplace first for funky hair before I commit to massive purple streaks or something. The haircut itself took like an hour and a half -they guy seemed to cut every hair individually. This is good. My hair doesn't do well with simple cuts, since it's very fine and utterly, completely straight. Someone has to know what they're doing to do my hair.
I knew I'd get along with them when I told them my last stylist refused to dye my hair very dark because she said it'd wash me out. Bzuh? I look good in black, and the time I wore a black wig to A-Kon I had people stop me in the hall to tell me how good it looked. These guys thought the previous stylist didn't know what she was talking about. :)
Anyway ... it's just under my jawline (they hacked about eight inches off - it was starting to get pretty long), very piece-y with lots of layers throughout to allow for lift, and it's deliberately designed to bemessy textured, because that's what my hair tends to do anyway. I didn't ask for this specific cut, just showed them a lot of photos I liked and let him have at it. Less decision-making for me, and I think I'll just change it every time I go in to have it cut. :)
Darkish and out of focus because if I used the flash, my skin would completley wash out, you'd see my scalp through the hair (I have a *lot* of hair - it's just very, very fine), the color of my hair wouldn't be right, and a flash from the front is the #1 least flattering light EVAR.

You can get the general idea of what the back looks like here:

A closeup of the hair so you can see the red streaks. This is lighter than the actual color due to the exposure.

And the kittyspam. She's looking up at the cabinet-thing over the toilet and debating whtehr to give me a heart attack by jumping up on top of the box on top of the cabinet, like she did two days ago.

It all looks very professional.
Off-subject, what did the final title of the Doujin project turn out to be? I have a couple layouts for the cover in mind, but I also need to be mindful of the title's length itself. I'll have sketches for you by tomorrow for approval.

Looking back through, I don't think we ever had a consensus on the title. I think it got down to:
Shiny Mind Toys
Adventures in Nowhere
Mental Chocolate
Hyper Myth
Those were all the ones that got 2 or more votes of approval. I kinda like Adventures in Nowhere or Mental Chocolate.

Adventures in Nowhere is still one of my faves, though it's considerably longer.
Mental Chocolate is good, but I think it lacks punch.
I can always leave space for a title and let folks decide later. I don't think it's a big issue with the layouts I have in mind.

Re: other stuff - OK, cool. :)

The hair looks good. You know, you look like someone I know or knew, but I can't for the life of me remember who. I think it's a wrriter, though.

I woke up this morning and I definitely had L hair from sleeping on it, but nobody's going to get to see a picture. People will just have to room with me at a con or somethng to see it.
Oh - I got the book yesterday - thanks. It probably arrived earlier in the week but I didn't check my mail much this week since I was always arriving home late. Gotta love that '70s hair. XD THe cat has already claimed it as her own. Not by shredding it, but because she likes lying on hard things and if she's on her spot on the couch, she'll snuggle up and pillow her head on top of whatever book is near to it. She prefers this one to Trigun Maximum #4, which was her pillow of choice previously.

Don't you love how people tell you, "Oh, you'd never look good with [insert colour] hair..."
My friends literally laughed when I told them I was going to cosplay as Sanji, him being blonde, and me having really dark brown hair. >.< I was even kind of nervous...I figured I'd look awful with that blonde wig. Especially since I had ordered a pretty light blonde wig.
The day before the convention, my friends all gathered at my house. My friend drove up, and I waved to her from my door way (I was already in full costume). I then went into the bathroom to draw on my curly eyebrow ^_^. I heard her ask my mom, "Who was the blonde?" and I was like, "Dude...that was me."
At the convention, every single person I met thought I was naturally blonde. Weird...
[I wrote an essay for you...whoops]

(I don't mind - I subscribe to Pascal's quotation of "I have made this letter longer than usual, only because I have not had the time to make it shorter")
That particular stylist really wanted to do my hair red, and while I've been every shade of red under the sun, I look better dark than I do red, because the red doesn't *quite* go with my skin tone. People think "Green eyes, pale skin, must be a redhead!" Heh. Nope. My natural hair color is ash brown (so it's got highlights that look grey under flourescent light), and cool colors look better with my skin.

Coincidentally, my hair was cut last night, too. I did it myself - clipper the hair on the sides and back (had grown out to about 3 to 4 inches) down to #3 on the clippers, don't touch the longer hair on top (about 8 inches long). Yes, it's as odd as it sounds, and add that about 3 inches of the 8 inch hair on top is bleached, back from when I bleached and went purple, and I've got absolutely no idea where this hairstyle is going to end up. Yet I keep growing it (and wearing hats for now).

Heh. Yeah, I didn't know what I wanted to do. I may go for blue streaks eventually, but I need to make sure that I won't get frowny-faces from management if I do that.

I'm so jealous, wednesday I broke down and spent 100 bucks on a colour job that Bruce didn't notice. I blow.
Much love,

Fie! An artist not noticing! You now have a great opportunity to play the Bad Hubby Card and get something in return, or to hold it in your hand until you need it to cover a Bad Wife Card. :)
