Any speculation as to why the couple who live above me do one load of laundry *every* *single* *night* at about 11:30? If it weren't that I've never seen either one of them wearing a uniform or a company shirt or something (not that I see them much anyway, since our schedules are slightly different), I'd think that they worked at jobs that required uniforms, yet inexplicably only owned one each. There's no baby up there, either, otherwise cloth diapers might be another possibility.
It doesn't bother me, because it serves as white noise, but I hear it every night during the week. Not sure about the weekends, as I hear it mostly in my bedroom, and on the weekends I go to bed later.

i also like to do my laundry on the same day at the same time. i wouldn't mind sleeping with the laundry sounds.
maybe they're just insanely dirty. professional fingerpainters?

Bed bugs.
They are trying to invent a new washing machine, and thus test it nightly.
They lost a bet of some sort.

See, Alton Brown has said he uses the spin cycle of the washer to help wash leafy greens or something like that. But that is a lot of veggies to wash every single day....
Huh, is there some kind of drug product that could be involved -- washing and drying leaves or something?

(Hmmm...Monday whites; Tuesday off-whites/lights; Wednesday blacks and navies; Thursday blues; Friday greens; Saturday reds/purples; Sunday whatever's left--and remember the color-catcher. Yup, I could do a load per night pretty much just with the stuff the Teen generates. Some of 'em wouldn't be *full* loads every week, but....)

On top of the washing machine.

Interestingly enough, a new baby did appear shortly before we moved out of the housing complex. I should have done some calculations on the timing. X-D

They just don't like having a huge stack of laundry around, so they try to do it as it arises? White load one night, pastels the next, dark the third, cold water delicates the fourth, then back around to whites, ad infinitum?
