(no subject)

Any speculation as to why the couple who live above me do one load of laundry *every* *single* *night* at about 11:30? If it weren't that I've never seen either one of them wearing a uniform or a company shirt or something (not that I see them much anyway, since our schedules are slightly different), I'd think that they worked at jobs that required uniforms, yet inexplicably only owned one each. There's no baby up there, either, otherwise cloth diapers might be another possibility.

It doesn't bother me, because it serves as white noise, but I hear it every night during the week. Not sure about the weekends, as I hear it mostly in my bedroom, and on the weekends I go to bed later.

Huh. You've eliminated my best two guesses. :-D When the lizard was smaller I'd basically do laundry two out of every three days because even if we weren't using cloth diapers, she'd spill stuff or blorp stuff and it just got messy.

They also like white noise for going to bed? Or they're just very rigid with the daily routine.

They might be hosts/waiters and have to wash smocks, aprons, or shirts they would only put on at the restaurant and that would get so dirty it would require frequent washing; however, given that it happens every night at a specific time, I'm honestly going to go with OCD. Did you know that, after counting one's steps, repetitively doing laundry is one of the top things people with OCD do? I know b/c as a child when I was anxious, I used to count steps. And my mom does laundry every Sunday at the exact same time, same loads. And we've talked about this, b/c she has a degree in psych, so she looked into studies or something...

i used to have to count the stairs when i would climb them o.o wow, i guess as a kid i never realized that was ocd, ha!

i also like to do my laundry on the same day at the same time. i wouldn't mind sleeping with the laundry sounds.

maybe they're just insanely dirty. professional fingerpainters?

It covers up the sounds of the noisy and messy sex they are having, and which generates laundry for the next night.

Bed bugs.

They are trying to invent a new washing machine, and thus test it nightly.

They lost a bet of some sort.

Ahaha. I was going to say bed sheets, but I think a cover up sounds better!

[identity profile] unrelatedwaffle.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say "are you sure they're doing laundry?"

That reminds me of another non-laundry idea.

See, Alton Brown has said he uses the spin cycle of the washer to help wash leafy greens or something like that. But that is a lot of veggies to wash every single day....

Huh, is there some kind of drug product that could be involved -- washing and drying leaves or something?

[identity profile] tygerr.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe one of them generates obscenely excessive amounts of "dirty" laundry due to ... whatever it is that makes my #2 Son create ten times as much laundry as I do? I'm sure I could do a full load of laundry every day, if I opted to go that route rather than inundate the living room with the stuff out of the Kid's room (and a little bit from my room) once a week or so.

(Hmmm...Monday whites; Tuesday off-whites/lights; Wednesday blacks and navies; Thursday blues; Friday greens; Saturday reds/purples; Sunday whatever's left--and remember the color-catcher. Yup, I could do a load per night pretty much just with the stuff the Teen generates. Some of 'em wouldn't be *full* loads every week, but....)

Well, if my mother's romance novels are any authority on the subject, they are having sex.

On top of the washing machine.

[identity profile] droiche.livejournal.com 2007-10-13 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
Haha. That was the suggestion I got about some former neighbors who had an extremely loud, rhythmically squeaky washing machine that they would have running at all hours of the day and night. This family just had two small girls too. O_o

Interestingly enough, a new baby did appear shortly before we moved out of the housing complex. I should have done some calculations on the timing. X-D

I work at a job where I have a uniform, and they actually only gave me one. I had to get all the other bits that would make it so I didn't have to wash it every day.

It's "money laundering"...that's it!

They just don't like having a huge stack of laundry around, so they try to do it as it arises? White load one night, pastels the next, dark the third, cold water delicates the fourth, then back around to whites, ad infinitum?
