In my head this morning....

"Careful," he murmers in her ear, his strong hands covering hers on the hilt of his sword. "That's my soul you're holding."

"Oh," she says. "That makes sense. That's why it feels like you."

"Hm?"

"Off-balance. Like standing on shifting sand. I have to hold on to something when you're close by, to keep from falling over."

Later, much, much later, when he wakes up one morning and she is gone, along with the sword, he does not much mind. She can't lose herself, not completely. He's got her feathered robe.

:) I dunno - it's sort-of tied in with a waking dream I had last week, only refining the two characters a bit and giving them a wee bit of history. (That dream is more of the "Well, this happened, and then this happened, and I think the world must be like this because of this other thing" and not really at a writing-out point. Plus, the characters in it were all played by Bleach characters, even though it wasn't Bleach at all or set in that world.)

If something more shows up in my head, I might do more. It's at a point where I can't force it without deflating the whole thing. I've got some thoughts on the characters and who they are and how they got that way, but nothing's really set at the moment.

No, don't - by all means, let it grow at its own pace. I just wanted you to know that if/when it's ready to emerge, I'm volunteering to be on its welcoming committee ... .

Within context (which, to be admitted, is mostly assorted unconnected images in my head right now), it's a bit more dangerous than it seems from just this snippet. XD But I like that it can be taken in more than one way, and at the moment it's up to the reader to decide which sort of emotional upset it is. :D
