SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT for Death Note chapters 58 & 59 and Samurai Champloo episode 22.



I have discovered the *true* reason behind the events in chapters 58 & 59...

L obviously felt that the Death Note manga was getting too confining for him and wanted to break into anime, guest-starring in Samurai Champloo episode 22, and the writers got pissy and killed off his character.

(Yes the images are very dark. The nighttime scenes in the episode are like that.)









What's even funnier is this is one of the Samurai Champloo episodes that is COMPLETELY crack-induced, and deals with wasabi zombies. Yes, zombies. Caused by, as far as we can tell, eating nothing but wasabi. And this guy's the head of 'em - he's dead, too. WE HAVE FOUND OUT HOW L COMES BACK!

Ah, I get loads of amusement from minor character-design similarities.

I totally went around for days after watching #22 going "Doesn't the zombie guy look like that guy from 'Death Note'?" and no one believed me! HA!!

I love me some Champloo. And some zombies. Zombies! Brains. Braaaaaaains.

And OF COURSE it's L! Same eyes, same nose, same face-shape. They've just got him to brush his hair! And cut his head off!

I didn't notice the resmblance at first, but about halfway through the episode it leaped out at me - I think that's when they started emphasizing the circles under his eyes, and then I noticed that the curve of his cheek and chin in the 3/4 shots was very close to L's character design.

That guy scared the crap out of me. I skipped to the end of the credits and his arm popped out of the ground and he had THE most fucking horrifying expresssion EVER. ;0; -scarred for life-

I'm really not sure what his name is - I don't remember if it was mentioned in the episode. I know he's TEH_CRAZEE. And dead. :)

It's the most crack-induced episode they've got. It beats out the one with the NY street-gang-type graffiti artists loose in the streets of feudal Japan, and the one with the giant burning hemp fields. XD The one I'm watching now, where they're playing baseball in 1600s Japan, is normal by comparison.

Oh, sure, he looks not dead, but shortly before the third screencap, his head falls off and he puts it back on. XD

XD It's a great series. There's enough 'normal' episodes to lull you into a false sense of security about what you think is going on, and then they whack you with a baseball bat from out of left field. It's the same production team as Cowboy Bebop, only MAINLINING CRACK instead of just drinking a lot, which is how they came up with the Bebop episodes.

XD Yup. And the fact that they've got actors who are American or who have no Japanese accent to their Engrish to do Doubleday and Cartwright, but the rest have such obvious accents... XD

Hahaha-- I especially liked the scene where it panned by all the Americans and one guy was like "fuckin japs" and another is like "we have to go the american way-- all the way" or something like that.

I looove the lame voices and dialogue they gave to the Americans hahah XD
