Bleach 72

So I'm watching Bleach 72, part of the dire Bount arc,* and the gang is running around a hospital trying to escape from the current baddies, and ... they wait for the frickin' elevator. I mean, really, one would think Japanese hospitals didn't have stairs. Or maybe each time someone else is added to the ensemble it lowers the collective IQ by twenty points. (At this point in time, there are ... *counts* ten beings of one type or another in this group.)





* Think of Bleach fanfic written by someone who doesn't quite get the concept of Bleach, but who does know how to write a generic by-the-numbers shounen series. It's got its high points, though: Hanataro in a convenience store, for one.

Hanataro in a conbini, and the associated Hana/Ganjyu not-so-sub text, is the only reason I acknowledge the existence of the Bount arc. :P

(Because I was ignoring the hell out of the arc, I didn't know about that scene until I saw someone's animated icon. I was convinced it was a really good 'shop job until they swore it was canon and gave me the episode number.)

I forget which episode it is in, but did you see the bit where Big Backache is tickling Junior Backache and at least one is semi-nude? Gah! I had repressed that it was also in the manga, so I was all, WTF were the anime creators thinking? And then I went to catch up on the manga and saw the same scene. Argh!

I haven't seen a single episode of Bleach(yet) so...where does this fall, mangas timeline? (So I can have an idea of who's there and ponder the likelihood of their waiting)

Well, this is one of the filler seasons arcs, but it's shoehorned in between the end of the Soul Society arc and the beginning of the Hueco Mundo arc. In the group, there are three characters that are original to the Bount arc and don't appear in the manga, but the rest are familiar. :)

Yeah...that's kind of why my Bleach episodes stop at 102. I had other things on my mind last winter and I just couldn't be bothered to keep up with crap like that.

I regret not picking up again once they started the Hueco Mundo arc though.

I don't think I saw much of that. I stopped watching around ep 72 because that shit just hurt my head.

There's like one teeny little scene in the Seireitei in each episode that seems to have some sort of vague something to do with the overall plot (there's an ex-shinigami in the Bount ranks, for one), and then the funny bits after the credits are usually set amongst the shinigami.

Of course, I like them because you get to see more background images of the Seireitei, because in the Soul Society arc, the entire Seireitei is one giant grid, if you look at it in the proper light. I understand why Kubo Tite did it that way - easier to draw the backgrounds and he can concentrate on the action - but it gives me an unfinished sense. I kind of like knowing what the houses and bathhouses and offices of the shinigami look like, instead of just Random Courtyard and Random Street, which is almost the entirety of the set in the SS arc.

I gave up a few episodes into the Bount arc and picked up the anime again when the filler ended. (And then dropped it again when the filler started up again.) The only thing I regret is missing all the omakes, some of which are hilarious.

A couple of years ago, I clipped all the omake segments from the Saiyuki Reload anime. Maybe I'll do that with the filler arcs in Bleach. XD
