Decided to watch one of my Netflix movies while I worked out exactly what I wanted to do. Well, for values of "watch" that include "fall asleep ten minutes into," I suspect. I've got a Thai horror film, a Thai film about a male GLBT volleyball team, and a documentary on magic by Penn & Teller. THE INTERNETS MUST SPEAK. and be totally ignored

i've only seen "Iron Ladies" but I loved it.

(As I recall, the opening credits are chaotic and do not reflect the goodness of the film -- so ignore them)

Will do! :D

I'm planning to bring the discs of whatever I have out from Netflix, BTW, unless it's halfway through a TV series.

PS. You got your itinerary/e-ticket info from the travel agent, right?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
At the moment, the next Netflix things I'll have are My Neighbors the Yamadas, Ghost Delivery (a Thai horror flick - I was apparently into Thai movies at one point), and the recent Casino Royale, before it starts going into Avatar and other anime series again. So I'm unsure if I'll bring them or not. OTOH I seem to ahve opened 3593443 tabs in Firefox with other Thai movies in them, so maybe I'll ahve a bunch of Thai movies.

Did you ever watch the short-lived series American Gothic? I remember watching a couple of episodes and liking it, and put it on the Netflix list when I discovered they were on DVD. I could push them up the queue if you didn't see it and are interested.

I would love to see American Gothic and/or Thai movies.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've just popped discs 1 & 2 of American Gothic and Ghost Delivery up to the top of the queue, so unless I get a better idea, I'll bring 'em.

Must remember to bring Eerie, Indiana. I need to push it on more people.

If you watch Avatar and do NOT ♥ Iroh and his tea, and the turtleducks, I will give you a cookie. (But a sad cookie. In fact, watch Avatar period before it kicks up again in the fall and a cookie is yours.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
:D

Someone sent me (maybe even anonymously) a DVD with episodes of Avatar burned on it, but I've lost it, hence why it's on my Netflix queue. If I find it before I get to that point in the queue, I'll even start watching it earlier.

My TiVo is convinced I'll love it, and keeps catching it. I MUST OBEY THE TIVO.

MWAHA, I'm pretty sure I snuck Avatar eps in with Mushishi(?) I sent you, so a replacement's yours if you want it. I own the season 1 boxset too, which is awesome for the interviews with the team of Korean animators team, who are all clearly huge anime geeks.

Sokka's Haiku Battle. Not spoilery, so awesome.

Hee! So it's your fault I've got it, then! I think I've got an idea of where it is - I came across it when frantically searching for something else a couple of weeks ago. It'll probably be after Japan when I get a chance to sit and watch it, though. If I still can't find it by then, I'll let ya know. :)

If you're still into Thai movies and horrorish, try Shutter. Loved the story, and it's about photography!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool: Netflix keeps recommending it to me, so maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks!

More Thai films, for whatever reason

Tropical Malady (http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Tropical_Malady/70033362?trkid=204759) sounds strangely interesting. The reviews range from "fantastic" to "I'm sure it was fantastic but I had no idea what was going on."

Mysterious Object at Noon (http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Mysterious_Object_at_Noon/60027875?trkid=204759) sounds surreal and potentially good.

* And yes, I have the e-ticket. You can print them out from the American Airlines website.

OMG I go away for three months and you get a SDK icon. Stay smooth, Hotaru!

And I'm voting Iron Ladies without clicking a single link, because. Iron Ladies.

[livejournal.com profile] chomiji is a mean, mean SDK pusher and as she is on vacation for 10 days I can talk smack about her. Find my Samurai Deeper Kyo tag for posts and (some) discussion - I mainlined the entire series in, like, three weeks. :)
octopedingenue: (Default)

Kyo spells his name with the kanji for "badass mofo"

[personal profile] octopedingenue 2007-08-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
SDK! It took til like volume 16 for me to stop actively loathing the art and I epically do not care about the OMGWTFNINJA, but after a long bout of shojo the aggressive purity of Kyo's testosterone can be so...cleansing.

KYO: RAWR! Worthless minions, I'll bite this baby's head off and use its bones to spike out your eyes!
KYO'S MINIONS: Awww, Kyo's saving that baby from a sad life of peasantry! That old softie, he loves us really!

OH KYO'S MINIONS. I need to go read the whole thing at Borders again. The first time I mainlined it I was taking Intro to Japanese History and we were in the middle of the Tokugawa Era, which makes the whole thing TWICE AS BEAUTIFUL. (Manga on the right side, textbook on the left, alcohol all round.)

I think I made some tagged posts on it, but maybe more about the scanslations. Has anyone ever counted which fight stretched fewer hours over more volumes, [general-ish Naruto & SDK spoilers?] the Battle to Rescue Sasuke!!! or the Battle to Rescue Yuya!!!? [/spoil]

Off that tangent, hands-down-favorite-random-scene [too vague/lazy to spoilerhide], the random French farce when Banri & Co. trip over Hotaru post-battle-coital conked out. I laughed til I coughed.

I hated the art in the first two volumes, but by 3 it had improved enough that I could tolerate it. And once I twigged it was an ensemble cast with a neverending expanding circle of ensemble, it made more sense. XD

I think it was Oda Nobunaga: Demon Lord that finally tipped me in favor of the CRACK. And speaking of which, I think you missed my POLL OF ULTIMATE CRACK (http://telophase.livejournal.com/912645.html) in which I challenge people to ID anime and manga based on the crackalicious parts. Answers here (http://telophase.livejournal.com/913062.html).

Space cadet Hotaru is my current favorite character. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-08-12 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
* er, the entire series up to the English release, that is. Through volume 23.
