Definitely a migraine. One of the reasons I don't always take my Relpax when I've got a migraine is that I'm not always sure I've got one - my bad tension headaches feel exactly the same as milder migraines, and the only difference is which drug works. Which is why I sort of welcome the migraines that show up with nausea associated, because I can be assured they're true migraines and not tension headaches.

So today marks the third time that not only did I have nausea, I've thrown up from a migraine. I do feel much better - the Relpax stayed in my system long enough to give relief from the pain, and now that breakfast is gone, my stomach is so much happier.

And you know after you finish throwing up and you see splashback on the bathroom mirror higher than your head, you know there's a damn good reason your midriff muscles hurt.

(Not to mention I have to stagger out to the grocery store for some Liquid Plumber for the sink at some point, because my stomach decided to start a second round as I was rinsing my mouth out, and while I did manage to get back to the toilet shortly afterward, the sink is now slow to drain. AREN'T YOU GLAD YOU CLICKED THAT CUT???)

Yeah. I've seen studies claiming that one of the reasons migraine treatment can be less than effective is that people hoard the meds.

Well, at $20 a dosen (market, non-subsidized price) and limited doses per month, I simply can't afford to gamble.

I do envy people with auras. Among other things, they get to participate in studies.

I can totally believe that. I don't get them frequently enough that it's become an issue yet, but the way I wander around for far too long with a headache debating if it's a tension headache or a migraine, which means that I get relief way later than I really ought, I think I'd end up only getting worse about that if I had to husband the doses. So I have great sympathy you and others in that position.

Yes - with an aura I'd know it was a migraine for sure. :D The one type of migraine I'm phenomenally glad I don't get is the kind that mimics a stroke - paralyzed on one side, aphasia. That would be frightening. I discovered its existence when a poster on one of the Usenet groups I lurk on talked about his stroke-mimicking migraines a year or so back.

Mine I've finally (after years) realized I get incredibly tired and brain-sluggish before. And I get an aura, but by them I'm pretty well fucked.

I've been trying to figure out if I get tired and brain-sluggish before, but unfortunately tired and brain-sluggish is enough of a normal feeling for me that I can't be sure it's prodrome or coincidence. XD But I definitely get completely apathetic afterwards, and quite often stupid during.

My last real migraine was when I was working an outdoor event and my poor boss was like, 'should you go home?' and I'm like, 'ha ha like I can drive.' I went and got a milkshake in hopes the brain freeze would cancel out the migraine. It didn't exactly but it was an awfully good milkshake.
