A short review...
...of the first half of episode 14 of Melody of Oblivion, just to show you guys what I'm talking about.
Screencaps. No spoilers.
This is Bocca Serenade.

He's in a labyrinth. Yes, I know it looks like a bus. Trust me.

Here's Horu, the Monster Bocca's tracking down. Horu is all down with the baby-eating and is expressing that to Bocca at the moment.

Horu taunts Bocca a little bit more.

And then promptly turns into a wall painting.

When is a door not a door? When it's a baby-eating Monster, apparently.

The door opens on to the Labyrinth's bullring (what? don't all proper labyrinths have a bullring?). Monster Horu gets all cute and intense.

And this is why. BULLJEEP!

This is, I think, the one screencap that will convince everyone reading this who hasn't seen Melody of Oblivion to run out and rent it.

They have an audience!

When Horu is thrown from his bulljeep, he blows his handy-dandy whistle... (sorry for lines, I was capping from my DVD player software)

...to summon his doll army. Not as OMGWTFBBQ?! as the MECHANICAL FIGHTING SOCK MONKEYS from a previous episode, but still.

Horu then escapes, and Bocca runs after him.

...to catch sight of a triumphant, although wounded, Horu...

...making his escape down the handy mine shaft next to the bullring.

Aaaaaand in case anyone is in desperate need of a bulljeep icon...

Now. Doesn't that make you want to watch it when I point out that this is a typical episode, not at all out of character from the series? Maybe a little more action-filled than usual.

Is this anime complete and released in the US yet?

Yup! I'm Netflixing it right now - 5 DVDs total. Not sure when it was released here, but it was originally aired in Japan somewhere between 2002 and 2004.

(I like how Ginko in your icon up there appears to be rolling his eye and trying not to associate with the crack below.)

(Hee, he does, doesn't he? Puts a new meaning to the "They are out there..." text. You sort of want to finish it with something like "...and I am going this way to avoid them.")

Who is the kid in the bleachers, and does Mommy know that he's out of the house in his jammies?

He did end up sparking an idea in Bocca that ... well, now, that would be telling. :)

Clearly I'm feeling snarkier than usual ... the hero's name sounds like a new product from these guys .... perhaps an exciting new line of primo heat 'n' serve dinners, complete with vegan dessert!
