Today was not a good day to be on Highway 30. I normally get home in 20 minutes - it took almost an hour. Would have been over an hour if I didn't exit early and take a few back roads. :D I'm not sure what it was that's backing up traffic past my apartment complex, but there were two other accidents on the way, both slowing traffic even more, and probably both caused by the main backup.

Ah well. I'm home now.

I believe it was an overturned vehicle and a truck with a boat on it. But that's all I could hear on the radio for traffic.

Yeah, I can see where that would do it. 30E is usually amazingly clear, it's 30W that gets all the heavy traffic and accidents.

Around here we get backups if there is an accident on the other side of the road because everyone slows down to see what is going on. So even if there is nothing happening in that direction all the traffic slows to a standstill.

We get those, too. We even get them when someone's pulled to the side to change a tire or look under the hood. God forbid you pass them without taking a look!

OOooh look, someone has a flat tire. How exciting! Now if it was something out of the ordinary it would be one thing, but it usually isn't. One time we had a truck flip and catch on fire, but that is about as exciting as it gets. And we get a lot of people going up the exit ramps and getting hit head on, but those are just sad because it is usually the elderly or people from out of town.

When I lived in Denver we had someone's car get struck by lightning and set on fire on the freeway! I wasn't anywhere nearby, but it was all over the radio. :D

And a couple of years ago here, someone's truck caught on fire and delayed my homebound journey - took an hour and a half instead of 20 minutes - and you can still see the scorch marks on the highway divider. That was the summer that it was so dry we were having grassfires all over the roads from people flipping cigarettes out windows, so there were lots of delays when the fire trucks were out fighting them. :)

That is awesome! I kinda want to move to Texas now. You have exciting people and events, hell you even get the exciting traffic.

oh man, that sucks. >.<;

kind of makes me think of the time i drove home for thanksgiving in 2005... it happened to snow a lot that day, and of course, everybody was driving home, so a drive that normally takes around 1 hour took 3+. needless to say, i wasn't pleased at all. :P
