Just spent three hours wrestling with a problem in Wordpress that had stymied me for weeks* to discover through a fortuitous combination of Google search terms that the real problem was not Wordpress or, as I thought, Dreamhost disabling a particular command for security reasons, but an over-vigilant Apache security module dedicated to rooting out spammers.** Which is all fine and dandy for comment spam, but not really necessary when I'm posting a page. But I managed to figure out how to disable it for the specific page-posting file and not for any other files in the whole Wordpress install. I feel much relief at this.
* Technically. This was the second time I'd messed with it, after giving up a few weeks back on my first try.
** Which gave an interesting 503 error, which says that the server's too busy, rather than any sort of error that told me what the hell was going on.

WP is pretty easy to mess with once you get the hang of it. (Not that I've tried doing my own theme yet or anything; I'm mostly messing with the functionality.) The only thing I can think of at first is that if you want to do a DH one-click install, you'll need to put it into a directory by itself with nothing else in it. If you're willing to install and upgrade it yourself, then you'll have to manually install. Which isn't very hard: I've done both. I had to do a manual install on the main magatsu.net directory, since that's already got a bunch of stuff in it that I didn't want to move. :)

Can't help you with going from LJ to the blog, but I just found a plugin that copies everything you put on WP to your LJ or LJ_code-derived (like GreatestJournal or Journalfen) blog. Check my LJ for an example.

Charmian has a list of the LJ-to-WP plugins she's found useful here (http://yuzutea.net/log/?cat=3).

"and then edit out all the posts or parts of posts", I mean.
