Thanks! I had to do the background with about 3 layers - the last one with a circular motion. You can see what one layer looks like in the glass. :)
And of course this is the cleaned-up version, so I erased all the bits where I slopped red into her fingers or got a touch of purple into her face, and I darked the hair to a flat black. XD
I have no idea. I'm looking through a couple of collections of fanart that keelieinblack sent me for inspiration.
I've got a pic with Mello and Matt sort of starting to simmer in the back of my brain, but it's mostly because I want to try this really nifty gritty coloring style with markers (as seen on the cover of Banya the Explosive Delivery Man (http://libraries.darkhorse.com/reviews/firstlooks.php?theid=13-966) vol 2). It uses colored pencils along with markers, although that cover is also using watercolors in spots.
Thank you! The flower gradation is slightly more subtle in the original - but this scanner is still better than my old one - but it still looks OK so I'm OK with it. XD
Yes. Very big. Bit I need big prints for my table and big originals for my art show panels. I think the rest of my big pieces this year will be pencil, though, because I can churn those out easily. :)
Huge marker pieces are pure death x_x But you handled this one extremely well by the looks of things. I'm sure it'll look fantastic in the art show.
I recently did a 5x7 marker piece that took me three hours. It seems like such a long time to work on a tiny piece. So, with that in mind, how's your back feeling?
Remarkably well. I found a smaller art board thing, and was able to prop it on my lap with my feet up on an ottoman, so I wasn't bending over it as much as I normally would. :)
It took me about 2-2.5 days to do this. Not sure how many hours, but I designed and inked on one day, then did the background yesterday and Yuuko today. AARG. :)
That background was gone over about 3 times, ad after I had covered it all very carefully not marking over any of the leaves or flowers, I realized that I needed to do *them* as well, so that the colors I put on top of them would be harmonized with the background, so I ahd to go back yet again and color in the pattern. It would have gone so much faster if I'd realized that at first. XD And I killed my Colorless Blender: I really need to order a refill tank of that stuff.
I go through blenders like candy. Those things are invaluable (and expensive :/ ) Luckily, Copic markers have been showing up more and more at cons so when I run out there, it's convenient shopping!
Very nice work. Glad to see there are others out there using Copics (Maybe they'll start selling them in art shops so I don't have to go broke importing them :p)
And they're starting to carry them in some Hobby Lobby stores, if there's any near you. (I managed to make a killing when I found that a number were mispriced at my store, and bought all of the mispriced ones for about $2 less than they should have been priced. XD)
Beautiful! I like the shadows on Yuuko's arm, and the way her hair falls over her hip.
By the way, I think the guy who does Megatokyo sells Copic markers in his store, but I don't know how his prices compare to other stores. (And I hope I'm not being obnoxious by saying that.)
He may, but I think that store is way over on the other side of Dallas from me, and is over an hour to drive. :D I haven't been there in years because they never seemed very nice to me when I went in. (And ironically I once overheard the clerks talking about how The Other Anime Shop in town was always very standoffish to customers and how they were always friendly, but I experienced the exact opposite every single time. :D)
I'm sorry. I only know the strip from the website, and I don't participate in the forums, so the breakup of the principals is something that feels very distant to me. I apologize for striking a nerve.
It's not a nerve, more that I don't actually read the strip and know nothing of the website and it wouldn't occur to me in the least that a webcomic would sell art supplies.
Wow, that's really lovely. The sofa and the dress look so nice and velvety, and I love her expression and the fabulous background. All those little leaves! - argh, must have taken ages!

It reminds me of Poirot (whose work is making news in a lot of places these days)

I envy you more because you can use markers *well*
Great job!

(And this being the cleaned-up version, you don't get to see where I slopped red into the fingers or anything like that XD)

That picture came out beautifully. I can't believe that is all done with markers. Like a bunch of other people I am in marker envy.

(Heh. I'd buy it.)
